I have such a hard time not getting something when they have a sale... the prices are so good and they're such nice people... I need more willpower! At least this sale I only pulled the trigger on one item (last sale I got two)... The more I get, the less money there is to set them though & the more items I need to set! The jewelry hoarders dilemma!

The dangerous thing for me is that I have a setting store that is a 40 min train ride away!

I could hop on the train, drop some $$$ and get something set on the same day! VERY bad!

I just moved to a new apartment, and there is a place that sells gorgeous stones and does settings DOWNSTAIRS. Every time I go out or come home, it's like walking past a gorgeous dessert buffet while I'm on a diet.

I received my Mint Garnet today. I am pleased because this is my first purchase, and it looks exactly like the pics on the site. While not ideal, I knew that, and I'm happy with my impulse buy. I think it will be pretty in a pendant.20180816_180400.jpg 20180816_175851.jpg

My garnet arrived. It is quite orange brown indoors which is to be expected. In the dying sunlight (already past 6pm here) it glows! Can’t wait to see it tomorrow during the day.
At its worst:

I'm tempted by a purple spinel - but it's a cushion cut rather than the EC I'm looking for.

Thanks for taking the time to share your beauties ladies!

@blingbunny10 would you mind telling me where you took your first photo? Was it under very bad lighting?

It's so glowy and gorgeous in the other 2 pics!

Reason I ask is because I also bought a garnet (my first one) and want to know how brown it might be! hehe my 5yo loved the pic of it on the website so there is always that!

Mellowyellowgirl- Sure, the first pic was under my kitchen lights which I think are LED. My kitchen has black counters and no windows lol. No natural light. And take heart... that pic was the darkest and brownest of all the ones taken in the kitchen, so it’s the stone at its worst. I hope you are happy with yours!

I'm so mad at myself for not buying that gorgeous blue sapphire, even though my bling budget is gone. It was exactly what I wanted--around 7mm, gorgeous bright blue color, Portuguese cut and an unbelievable price. I should have taken the funds out of my grocery money. So what if the family ate ramen noodles and PB&J sandwiches for the next month or so. I hate being responsible! Anyway, I indulged in a little therapy and pulled the trigger on a matched pair of cute Burmese rubies and a parcel of iolites from the sale. The markdowns were huge and the total with shipping was right around $100. I'm going to set the rubies into studs and bring a few iolites when I go to the stone setting class that I'm taking in September.

I feel better!!

Wow u ladies are totally tempting me!

Looks like several orders arrived today - lovely gems, ladies!!:love::love:

My package came too. :appl: I was trying to catch the last bit of daylight so I didn’t get a chance to give them a proper cleaning before taking photos.

Here are the Afghan green tourmaline and the unheated pink/purple sapphire indoors and outside:

A sleepy spinel... this was a difficult one to photograph!

And finally, two silver/pink spinels I’m trying to decide between. Would love everyone’s feedback - should I keep the oval or the emerald cut?

@stonewell LOVELY gems! In terms of the silver/pink spinels, I personally prefer the oval because it looks brighter to me. But both are lovely in their own right, and I think it depends on what look you prefer--more silver, or more of a pink/purple? I think the oval is more of a silver/light pink, and the emerald is more of a silver/deep pink almost purple in tone.

Nice stash you have there @stonewell

I like the emerald cut. Both colours are nice nut I am an emerald cut nut, especially in coloured stones I find them really special!

Thanks, @lovedogs! =)2 I have the same thoughts on both stones. TBH, I am smitten with the emerald cut, but wished it was colored more like the oval. This is going to be a tough decision!

Appreciate the feedback @mellowyellowgirl... I went a little overboard, but all of the gems were so well priced; I just couldn’t resist.

My family is split between the two - DH says he prefers the oval and my daughter who loves step cuts says the emerald is a no-brainer. DS says he likes them both and why decide? (I like the way my DS thinks )

Your beautiful emerald cut reminds of me when I first got into diamonds. I LOATHED the emerald/asscher cuts! Not enough facets! I was like "Who the hell would want a stone that looks like a bunch of rectangles."

Now I can't get enough of them! Sometimes colour is almost secondary if it combines well with an emerald or asscher. So weird!

My 5yo keeps dissing my silver pink spinel! Lol it hasn't arrived yet but he's offended by it for some reason and keeps talking it down and talking the garnet up! He's all "You have a bright pink stone why do you want this faint pink?"

I'm SUPER excited about the faint pink actually!

Lovely haul, any specific plans for any of them? I love the emerald cut

No real plans yet, @Rubybrick. I was thinking of a bezel setting for the tourmaline since it’s sizable enough on its own. The sapphire is a bit of a wide pear, so I was thinking of a partial halo to play that up. I may make it into a pendant too.

If I go with the emerald spinel, then a setting with baguettes or traps side stones would look nice, imho.

Not sure about the others, so I’d love to hear any suggestions!

How big is the emerald spinel @stonewell?

I am terrible at gauging sizes onscreen! Everything looks kind of the same size!

I love a finely crafted bezel! And it will look awesome at that size.

Was it DK that had a graduated halo for a pear shaped stone recently? That might be pretty cool for your sapphire, would be lovely size for pendant.

So many fun projects to plan for.

@mellowyellowgirl, your account of step cuts made me chuckle. I use to pass them up because they just didn’t sparkle enough compared to brilliant cuts. After getting an asscher, I have done a complete 180; I can’t get enough of them! I would *love* to have a CS asscher one day :kiss2:

The emerald is 7.6mm x 5.8mm. I’d prefer it to be just a bit larger, but it’s not bad at all.

Yes! DK did a graduated halo recently... it was gorgeous. Now you’ve got my wheels turning.

I’ll probably set these over time - hopefully by the end of the year. I have a couple of projects in the works and of course, I need to refrain from collecting more!

Oh gosh that emerald was on my list for so long! It’s gorgeous! If you send it back it’s sold :geek2: haha but seriously I prefer the emerald cut but the oval looks a bit brighter.

I agree with your DH- hero the last two! But that emerald cut is so unique that I’d probably keep that one even though I prefer the color of the oval a bit more.
