Mattress Recomendations

Oh, I've just been through this whole tortuous process! I bought a tempurpedic (can't remember the model, it has a cushiony, plush quilted top). I've had three nights on it now and so far so good, but nothing amazing. Comfortable, not too quicksand-like as I'd feared and it helps (although doesn't eliminate) lower back pain from an old fracture.

I don't find it hot at all, and it's COLD at night here already, so that would have been no bad thing - it doesn't seem to get hot at all. I was a little disappointed by that, I'm always cold in bed.

We had a pure latex mattress before that, and it isn't hugely different - I think you'd notice more of a difference going from a traditional sprung mattress, though.

I was scared that if I slept on my back, my somewhat heavy bottom would sink into the mattress and I'd end up folded like a taco, with only my wrists and ankles showing by morning... hasn't happened so far, it's fairly firm.

Ditto those who recommended all natural latex! We love ours--my husband has back issues because he's very tall and our mattress has improved them immensely. It also does not get hot like memory foam does.

Here's where we got ours: http://www.mulliganmattress.com/

The guy makes them here in Portland, which is cool. We've had it for 3 years now and it is still going strong. My parents were recently housesitting for us and slept on it and my mom said it is the first time my dad hasn't gotten up in the middle of the night in years.

I have what Ithink is a serta that is fabulous. We laid on tons, and the tempurpedic felt like a hot rock. I get warm enough as it is being fat and all, and there is no way even in winter I could sleep on that. It didn't budge, it didn't conform. It was solid as the ground, and hot as hades.

We have McRoskey mattress and box spring set, gentle comfort. It is hand-made in cotton. We don't get overheated in it, unlike our previous Sterns & Foster set. It is very comfortable, provides good support for the body, and doesn't cause me back pain. The only problem is, we don't want to get out of the bed any more.

The thickness of McRoskey mattress is very reasonable. For gentle comfort, it is 8.5'' thick, so it can be flipped or rotated regularly without killing yourself. The height of McRoskey box spring can be custom-made anywhere from 8'' to 14'' to fit the customer's bed frame. We chose 14''. Btw, they are based in california and sell directly to the public.
