Meet my 1.3ct L-M OEC!

I really like the cut on this stone! Congrats.

Gemfever, have any more chipped stones lying around?

LOL Minous, I wish! I'm walking around ringless myself right now. It's tough. The right upgrade stone needs to show up on the horizon SOON! :cheeky:

CharmyPoo - I hope that's true :)) I hope the bezel doesn't take away from any of the personality.

ariel144 - thank you very much. it might be normal sparkle for a diamond but it's my first diamond. super exciting.

minousbijoux - ahhhhh yes, pastels. that's what makes me drool uncontrollably with OECs. thank you for coming back to oggle! I was kinda afraid to share on PS that it's chipped, since some might say - oh that's a bad idea, or whatever. but for us, I think it's the perfect decision. let's hope it pays off. ::)

GemFever - hehe thank you. I come back here a few days to admire since he hid the diamond.

Dreamer_D - wow, thank you! means a lot coming from you. you are so discerning and knowledgable when it comes to old cuts! and it's proof when you look at your diamond! you have one of the most beautiful old cuts i've ever seen!

Stunning! Great choice. Congrats and good luck on getting engaged!

Wel lthank you

I am not too concerned about chips as long as a) the buyer knows what they got, b) paid a fair price and c) is able to have a very skilled bench set their stone! I think you meet the first two criteria very well! And did read that you will have ERD set your stone? If so I am sure it will be fine!

Can't wait to see the end product.

Great work with finding the stone and the setting....

Can't wait for the final result and then a separate posting on SMTB!!!

Woo hoo!!!

lin-ny, congratulations!! what a lucky coincidence to find gemfever on your way!

this stone looks stunning!! I can't wait to see a picture of the finished ring :appl:

Jereni - what kind words. Thank you :))

Dreamer_D - a) check! b) check! insane deal! c) aaaand check! You've reassured me that although this stone isn't perfect, that we made a good choice. Lets hope we still feel that way once it is set! And yes, Chris @ ERD has said they will be very careful in setting it, so like you said, I'm sure it will be just fine. I sure hope they qualify as 'skilled bench' I can't wait either! Eee!

gregchang35 - thank you! Like most folks here, I've spent hours and hours combing PS for the past 6 months to discover what I really want. My journey took me from a 2-3 ct sapphire halo to an OEC in a rose gold milgrain bezel solitaire! Kinda totally opposite but I'm so happy with where I've landed. I'm just smitten with antique stones/warm gold. Oh definitely, there'll be a big 'ol SMTB thread!

dianabarbara - I figure it was fate! She was so amazing and really a total joy to buy from. She made me feel relaxed and made the whole experience really easy. Which meant a lot, considering we were buying an uncerted diamond from a stranger! Lets just hope the setting process goes smoothly. I think I'll feel really awesome once it's on my hand! And congrats to you on your amazing ring! I love happy endings!

That's one of my all time favorite settings! And I think your gorgeous diamond will look dreamy in it. I can't wait for the SMTB thread!

I've discovered that this setting has a few diehard fans! It deserves it. :)) I think the 18k rose gold is the most beautiful metal I've ever seen!!!!

I really hope the setting translates well to my 1.3 ct stone as opposed to the 2.6 ct! I'm worried that the gallery won't look as good or won't be able to have as many petals. Hopefully they'll be able to just 'shrink' the setting as is. I know they're capable of some pretty delicate metal-work so fingers crossed it turns out well.

I so badly need it on my finger!!!! hahaha

you. have. no. idea.

Just a few closer-uppers! And one I so skillfully took through the loupe with my cell phone.

Looking at the "M & lower" diamond thread, I begin to wonder if this stone is really an L-M! Looks maybe lower than that? Who knows.

Some of the pictures also worry me that it's a leaky stone, but I'm not sure because it's so hard to take a good picture, especially with a phone and mediocre lighting. Hard for me to tell when it's just contrast/the camera reflecting or just plain leaky. I also didn't have enough time with it to experiment with picture-taking! Ultimately, it doesn't really matter. It's mine!

All I can really see when I look at these pics is: dat table! Dat kozibe!!!

There is no leakage in this diamond. The cut is superlative. The patterning is symmetric and crisp with no hazy or indistinct areas. The contrast is great. Its a real winner.

You are my favourite person!!!!!

I literally let out a sigh of relief when I read this post. I wasn't sure if I wanted to express my insecurities, partly because it's already a done deal but also partly because so many people here have absolutely fantastic diamonds. Thanks for those affirmations.

Chippy is a real winner! :appl:

Aw Linny, I'm glad Dreamer affirmed that it's a nicely cut stone. I think it probably has less leakage than the stone I found for my upgrade! Or in any case, much less obstruction issues. As people pointed out in my thread, every diamond will have it's "bad lighting" moments. Even round brilliants don't look perfect all the time. But this is a great stone, so I think you needn't worry about the cut! :))

(if I do say so myself! ;)) )

OMG! I didn't even know you found a stone! I don't spend much time in the Antiques forum so I'm dashing over there right now to take a closer look!!! :appl: :appl: :appl:

It's a nice-designed ring!! Congrats on the engagement!! :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl:

Thank you! Although, we aren't engaged yet. Hopefully it's on the horizon somewhere... ;))

Soooo... got the initial CADs! As far as I know, the design from this is taken straight from the original inspiration ring:

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/2-7c-cushion-in-rose-gold-milgrain-bezel-setting-from-erd.176615/

There's no modifications on this yet, although I'm pretty positive I want to make some. But I'm open to opinions (as long as they agree with mine... :wink2: ). I know CADs can look chunky, but I was really surprised! This ring looks super chunky. Ew. haha.

Yay, CADs and mold! Exciiitiing!!!

But wait, if there is a mold already, can you still change the CADs? And why didn't they put the diamond in the mold for the pics! :nono: :cheeky:

Gem - I'm sure we can change stuff. We didn't ask for the mould or anything. :twirl:

I think I definitely want the bezel milgrained and as delicate as possible. It definitely doesn't look nearly as delicate as the inspiration ring. Also I'm hoping they can make the band a little less... high? I never know how to describe that part of a ring.

I wish they would send me the mould to wear around the house.

Lin ... I'm working with another vendor on a setting based on the same inspiration photo. I'd love to see photos of your gorgeous ring now that you have it on your finger!
