So men don''t even wear school(college or grad school) rings?

I see men with their class rings but personally I think it''s ludicrous on an older guy. It''s like "dude get over it, that was 20 years ago". I''m not anti ring on men. A tasteful star sapphire, onyx, or gold crest is OK by me. I stopped wearing my "class ring" the day I graduated.

Agreed (mostly). Why no watch and cufflinks? I like that look as long as neither is too gaudy.

I think a nice watch is essential for a guy. They're classy and everyone can appreciate them. Also, I know a few guys who wear a cross under their dress shirts. You can't see it at work though -- only when we get changed b/f softball. We're 4-0 btw.

Did you know everyday watch sellers are dying off? A generation of people who get the time by looking at their cell phones is replacing those of us who grew up with a mandatory ticker. Still strong in the fashion industry, the family jeweler's watch counter and such counters in department stores are fading fast.

On-topic: I have the ladies in my life to thank for steering me away from the earring impulse several times. I was a drummer playing the cover band scene for many years while getting my university percussion degree. An earring was the least of the temptations I was exposed to. Considering the pack I ran with it's amazing my lobes are hole-free. While I still think it would have looked oh-so-cool in the late 80s there would have been more jeers than cheers over time. For some people it's who they are, which is great. But if you have any ambivalence at all I think the old "gut" feeling is the right call.

(By the way IM, mesh shorts had me spitting coke)

This thread is the best - I haven''t laughed so hard all week - what with Lesco''s pirate crack, Mikey''s mesh shorts, and John''s oh-so-cool 80s visual, ahhh, good times.

But I digress. My vote is a no on the earrings for men. I''m from SF as well and worked at museums with lots of artsy, creative folks and have seen piercings in all sorts of unholy regions, but I would agree that it''s a bit over and out and that it would put you in that category of "the pierced ear guy" in a corporate setting. BTW, I''m not a corporate, conservative person, just not a fan of man bling most of the time. A wedding band, nice shoes, a fab tailored suit and watches are nice, but that''s all a man really "needs" in the way of adornment. Just my 2 cents.

Maybe a high school ring could should suffer this fate but a college ring from a reputable university is a prestigious thing to a lot of people. In NC if you wear a Duke ring some people give you free stuff (restaurants etc) -- I don''t wear my ring, nor do I own one but I don''t mind it at all. I don''t think it''s a "dude get over it" type thing at all. You wear a ring after you graduate not while you''re in school...you''ll always be a grad, what''s there to get over.

John, I''m surprised that watches are becoming a thing of the past. I used to be a cell phone checker until my GF got me a watch this past C-mas. It''s changed my life (well OK that makes my life sound lame but it''s true). Plus, they look great and really finish off a polished, professional look.


PS -- I''m glad everyone appreciated the mesh shorts line. In a perfect world I''d alternate b/w mesh shorts and sweats (depending on the weather) and my 8 year old patrick ewing tee shirt or a north face (again weather depending) -- at least my firm is business casual and not all suits all the time
