So, after much resistance (I hate wearing any jewelry besides a watch), I agreed to wear a wedding band bc it is important to my fiancee. I want something very simple, thin, and platinum/white gold/palladium. I stumbled across the Lucida and it is a beautiful ring. I'm not sure what size, 4.5mm or 6mm, I will end up wanting but at $1600 for the 4.5mm and $2100 for the 6mm, I am certainly paying for the name. It seems I can get an 18k WG or Palladium ring for half the price. But I do really like the Lucida. Does anyone know who makes a really good copy or could make a really good copy? My wedding is in October, so I do have some time. The closest copy I found was this:

Here is the Tiffany ring for comparison:

thx nielseel! i was hoping to find a platinum one for cheaper but if it is only a few hundred cheaper than tiffanys, i may just go with the real thing. a few hundred, given what im spending on the wedding/e-ring/etc, isnt a deal breaker. i just dont know what metal i want. i want the whitest possible metal.

Platinum is just plain expensive and the bands are heavy. If I were going with a brand name for a plain platinum band I would probably go for Tiffany or even Cartier.

I think cobalt chrome might be the whitest metal for mens jewelry.

what is the whitest metal (and will stay the whitest) of WG/plat/pall?

white gold has a slight tint, that is covered up by rhodium. The rhodium does come off eventually though. Ive heard palladium has a more grey look. I think platinum of the the 3 is whitest, but i know its a specific mix, someone else will have to chime in though. some platinum is whiter and some is more grey

My husband has this band in yellow gold. It has a very nice shape to it and while you are indeed paying for the Tiffany name, I think it is worth it. It's a ring that you hope to wear your whole life so when you look at the price that way, it doesn't sting so much!

My husband wears a 4mm Palladium band. His looks quite grey and scratched after only a few months of wear. He never takes his off. I also have Palladium and mine is much more shiny with less scratches. I always take it off to do housework etc.

maisie,
do you have a pic of it on his hand? i want something really thin and simple but i dont want it to look dainty. im thinking 4.5mm but i dont want it to look feminine. basically i need to go into tiffanys or something and try some on.

Here you go. This was when they were new :))

thx maisie, i actually tried on my buddy's ring which is 4mm and it looked great. i think that will be the size i look to get.

oh thats good, regardless of if you get Tiffanys or not, at least itll be cheaper :wavey:

I bought mine at eweddingbands.com and love it, it is round, comfort fit, 4mm, platinum. I could not tell the difference between mine and the Tiffany one, and saved alot of money. If I can post a picture I will

I would splurge on the Lucida band. It is simple, but perfect.

I have the 3mm version in gold and it's one of my favorite rings. It's very smooth and comfortable and feels like butter on my finger. Having said that, I have it in a size 4 and when I compare it to my friend's ring in a 4.5mm ring, the contours do look a little different. Hard to explain, but I do think it's a lovely ring.

the mens Lucida bands come up on eBay - get it but save some dough

Yep, they sure do, and so do the fakes.

Absolutely - be smart about it! You have plenty of time b/f your wedding and I'd only purchase from a reliable source. I see lovemydiamond has one on now - I bought a Tiff Platinum Etoile from them a few years years back and they have a 14 day return period, 12,000 transactions and 100% positive feedback. I looked and looked before I bought mine. Good luck whichever direction you decide to go.

i would consider ebay...i buy everything on there....but im a bit superstitious about used wedding band. funny bc id buy a "used" anything else. maybe if i look at the used ones enough i can get past my superstition....
