I had my first meeting with my dress designer yesterday and she is so nice.
She's in her 20's and we both did pretty much the same courses at university, we are also both detail obsessed so I know the dress will be exactly what I want.
Even better, she's almost more excited than I am about the project as she has always wanted to do a full on tudor-style dress. We pretty much finalised the main design between us yesterday and she's bring the toile down at xmas for me to try.
She's making it in two pieces - the corset, which is a proper historical Tudor one with all the proper boning, and then the dress will fit over the top - so I can wear the corset for other things as well.
The whole thing is made exactly to my measurements and will be finished with lines of pearls like those in the Anne Boleyn portraits. The fabrics will be a pale gold silk damask for the underskirt and an ivory and pale gold silk damask for the overskirt, sleeves and bodice.
Best of all - the price, including fabric comes in at exactly the same price as I would pay for a mid-range highstreet dress.
This dress looks pretty similar for the bodice and the straight sleeves which come to a point on the hand, but the skirts will flow more and stick out less, they will also flow into a chapel train at the back...
