When it comes to jewelry, what color metal do you primarily wear, and what is your skin tone?

I'm really fair and have cool-toned skin. I wear mostly white metals because I think that looks best with my fair skin. I wish high karat yellow gold looked good on me, but it's a no go.

How about you?

I 90% of the time wear white metal with the remaining 10% being yellow. I really do love rose/ pink gold but my skin is fair with an orange-y tone to it so rose gold looks horrible on me! :knockout:

Most of the time white metals though I have a couple of yellow gold pieces. White definitely looks better against my skin. I'm pale with pink undertones so cool toned and yellow is not the best match for me. Though I adore my yellow gold pieces it's primarily platinum/white gold for me. Not sure about rose gold.

I'm relatively fair with slightly yellow undertones and I think white looks best on me, then yellow, then rose. Rose gold doesn't look bad, it just doesn't pop. But I don't care, I wear them all!

I'm pale with a naturally pink cast, though leave me in the sun for a week and I turn nut-brown with platinum hair.

I wear mostly white metals, for the sake of consistency ... between my own silversmithing and my steel watch and my vintage platinum pieces, it's nice when everything matches. That said, I'm starting to be tempted by rich yellow golds and warm roses hues - they all look good, it's just a question of getting an ensemble going in each.

No green gold, though - makes me look dreadfully sallow.

I mostly wear white metals or two-tone metal (with white metal being dominant), just because I think that looks best on me (fair skin but ability to tan if I didn't always wear sunscreen)... I don't really care for 14kt yellow gold on me, but I can wear high-carat yellow gold (really love 22kt YG but 18kt YG works too) and I have two colored gemstones that I plan to set in all high-carat yellow later this year.

I love the look of rose gold (particularly 14kt rose gold) but I do not like how it looks on me... I can only wear it ias an accent metal.

I also can wear oxidized silver and the grayish 18kt palladium white gold - but these colors to me only go with certain gemstones and certain ring designs so it is a case-by-case basis.

I'm pale w rosy undertones so in my mind, I think I look best in white metals....but I have one RG ring and I love wearing it! It just seems a good fit w my skin, better than YG pieces but maybe it's because I WANT the RG to look better...???

Fair-to-medium with yellow undertones. I can and do wear either yellow or white metals and I have a fair amount of both (with most of the white being silver.) When I let my hair grow out it'll be more white than any shade of gray, and at that point I'll probably transition to wearing mostly big, bold silver pieces.

I think rose gold is very pretty, but it just gets lost against my skin.

HI:

I wear everything--and often mix colors. I don't discriminate--or rather I cannot!

cheers--Sharon

I'm fair skinned, and each time I go to buy some make-up at the MAC counter they sell me a shade called "Neutral Cool" which seems to mean I can wear a bit of anything. White metals look best on me and the vast majority of my jewellery is white metal. I also have a few pieces of 14k rose, and some smaller pieces in 18k yellow gold. The deep 18k yellow Tiffany shade looks OK on me as long as I keep it to delicate pieces. So basically, my shade is white metal although I can wear the other shades in moderation, for a change. I wear a lot of navy blue and I love deep yellow gold with navy.

I can't pick. I've worn everything and I think it all looks good, especially when I absolutely love something!

FWIW, I have olive skin with yellow undertones and get a bit darker during the warmer months... I haven't given much thought to whether my skin tone makes a difference in my metal color preference, jewelry wise. I guess I've always gone with what the metal color trend seems to be at the time. I have a Gurhan stacking ring set of 3 yellow gold hammered bands, and truthfully, I don't think they look that great on me. But I layer them between 3 sterling silver hammered "skittle" gurhan rings so the ring situation is kind of diffused, if that makes sense. I used to hate mixing metals but not I actually like it. I'm no help. I'm firing myself from this thread.

I like this! :appl:
I actually have a few pieces of jewelry that combine yellow, white and rose gold (bracelets, necklace and earrings) and while I wear the earrings (which I love) I forgot about the other pieces. Thanks Sharon for the reminder!
I also mix metals. When I'm wearing any of my yellow gold pieces I still wear my ER (platinum) and watch which technically don't "go". I don't mind not "matching" my metals.

What's with all the pale people on PS? I'd love to know how you all define pale/fair, because I've only met about 2 people in my life with paler skin than myself. Many makeup brands actually don't make a color light enough for me... Ivory maks me orange  Also I have no ability to tan, I just burn and/or freckle. I seriously have no idea how I'm not a redhead with this skin.

Anyway, I wear mostly white metals- not a fan of yellow gold on my skin. I think I have slightly pink undertones so the yellow just looks weird. I don't own any rose gold, though I'm really looking for some inexpensive pieces to decide how it looks on me, because I love the look and I'm going to reset my ering in the next couple of years, but I want to make sure rose gold will look nice on me before I pull the trigger on a custom setting.

With my medium-ish skin tone, I like white & rosé best. And I really don't give much thought to coordinating metals anymore. (I think of myself as fair until I compare skin tone with my husband - then I see the yellow/warm undertones.)

I mix white & rosé mostly. I have a few yellow pieces, but I think 18k yellow - esp. Tiffany's - looks a little off on me unless I've gotten some sun.

We're posting so much on PS that we don't get outside much LOL. ;))

I would look best in YG because I am a pasty redhead which is why I selected that in the poll but I cannot wear gold of any karatage. I am violently allergic to it, and it boils my skin (it's sexy!)

I can wear platinum and stainless, so that's what I wear.

Me too. I wear yellow, white and rose and the pieces are almost never match-y. I'm medium fair with yellow undertones. I think I look best in yellow gold but I have no fashion sense so possibly I don't look as good as I think i do. :)

I think it's interesting how many fair girls are pinkish and cool tone. I am like...yellow/olive/jaundice-disgusting. My cheeks are reddish from rosacea but the rest of my face is super yellow-green paleness. They don't really make makeup that comes in my color. I've found like two ready made if that.

Hey ame :wavey:
I have rosacea too. Sucks at times. Sorry you have it too. :knockout:
I use dermablend cover creme to cover any pink/red irritated areas. It is good for sensitive skin and comes in many different shades.

   That's probably true, missy!

I'm not as fair as some, but I'm the lightest color in most make up I wear. I wear "Porcelain" in Laura Mercier and I think at MAC I'm an NC15? It's been a while since I've used MAC foundation.

I'm Irish and Italian, so I figure the Irish makes me pale and the Italian gives me slightly yellow undertones. :cheeky: I have freckles but will get tan if I'm outside enough. I get sunburned within 20-30 minutes if I don't wear sunscreen, though. My twin sister made me walk on the sunny side of the street with her once and her mind was blown that it was enough to give me a sunburn. She's a lot more olive-skinned than me and always gets a gorgeous tan!

I love wearing yellow gold almost exclusively even though my skin tone is pale with pink undertones (blonde hair w/green eyes)...maybe white gold would 'look' better in some people's eyes but I just don't care. I love my yellow gold :)

Basically as my DH says, I'm 3 shades away from being transparent :?

My DH tells me my makeup shade should be liquid paper  <- and that's not me blushing, just standing too close to a window on a sunny day!

Seriously I was just so amused that so many people responded that their skin tone was "pale" when this doesn't seem to be all that common among people I see in my everyday life (and I live in a pretty low-diversity area), so now I'm wondering if there is some link between lack of pigment and love of jewelry. Maybe it's more a link between jewelry-love and not frying ourselves in tanning beds? (no offense meant to anyone who tans, I just burn so easily that I'm petrified by the idea!)

i like RG watches,PT ring, necklace in high kt YG...

I have yellow undertone so all yg for me. White metals look dull gray with my skin. Rose gold seems to disappear on my skin. Good thing because I am allergic to white gold and silver.

Awww Sarah I laughed out loud

I'm a sort of orangy brown. Everyone I've asked seems to agree that rose gold looks best, but my first love is a very pale yellow, and then high-karat yellow. Icy whites and greys like plat/palladium really don't work on me - probably the same reason I (honestly!) prefer J/K diamonds to higher colours...

YG. I am pale (paler than MAC NC15) but white metals give a weird unflattering pink tone to my skin, and YG or RG gives a nice ivory cast to my skin.

Well to point out the obvious, the majority of PSers seem to have a lot of disposable income, and the majority of Americans with a lot of disposable income are Caucasian, so I don't think it's particularly surprising that most people here are "fair" or "pale."

I am fair to medium skin tone with very dark brown hair. My father was pale & mum is olive skinned with black hair (now shocking white - she's almost 70!) I wear white gold or platinum for consistency, but have some older yellow gold pieces. In the sunshine I tan well & then the platinum really pops out against my skin. I do love a buttery 18 carat yellow gold though :))
