Michael B Crown Lace (petite?) E-ring, what diamond color?

First time poster here. I am very interested in Michael B's Lace collection, particularly the Crown Lace (rounded version). I'm looking for some advice, though.

• First off, my girlfriend prefers rose gold. I have not been able to see the Crown Lace in RG yet, however. Can anyone comment on the coloring of Michael B's RG (is it faint pink, coppery or somewhere in between (peachy)?

• The pave employed on the setting is F color, VVS clarity. How low do you think I can go on the color scale for the diamond (looking to buy a RB, well-cut stone)? I don't want the color of the RB to look different than the pave, but would like save as much on color as possible so I can shift funds to carats and cut.

• Finally (for now), do you think a 1.5-1.9ct RB will look too small on the standard Crown Lace (as opposed to the petite)? Keep in mind that I may ultimately go with the matching Crown Lace wedding band to stack with the E-ring. Michael B recommends the petite version for RBs up to 1.5cts.

I couldn't find any information on what alloy mix they use for their RG, but you could contact them and inquire. Once you know what mix they use we should be able to find photos that may help.

I think that the petite version is 2.5mm and would look great with a 1.5-2ct stone.

Any thoughts regarding the color of the RB? That is definitely a major concern as far as price goes...

Many people can't distinguish color differences in a set diamond until they get to the H/I range, and even then the body color is noticed more through the pavilion than in the face up position. I have a 1.25 J in a pave setting with E/F melee and though I can see some body color in my stone from the side, I can't detect a difference in color while looking at my ring straight on. I think that most people here will advise you not to go below an I color for a ering but depending on how you or gf perceive color and how you feel about slight tint, I'm ok with dropping to a J if I'm trying to achieve a specific weight. Body color is more apparent in larger ct weights though, so you may want to view a few and see what you think, but since your considering stones under 2ct, you are probably fine. If you do decide to view some stone in person, make sure that you are comparing color between stones that have been graded by the same lab, specifically GIA/AGS, they are the most consistent and accurate. Labs like EGL IGI have a reputation of being all over the board with their grading making it impossible to know what you are truly looking at.

Yes, post the RG information when you recieve it. There is a thread here comparing differences in RG color, I'll try to find that for you and link it.

As for the rose gold tone issue, I heard back from a rep at Michael B and was informed as follows:

"The alloy we use for our 18K “Red” Gold is a copper base. It’s incredibly beautiful"

Is that info adequate to get an idea of what their RG looks like? Thanks!

Not Christina obviously, but all red/rose gold is alloyed with copper - that's what makes it pink. I even have white gold that's 15% CU and the metal is slightly pinkish... So no, not really helpful, but I think metal colours have to be seen in-person to be truly appreciated, and I rather suspect they wouldn't tell you the details of the composition anyway. That's a beautiful setting

yeah, as Yssie said it's not very helpful, and I agree that it really needs to be seen in person. Do you have a Michael B dealer in your area that can show you a sample setting in RG? This is probably the best route to take if you are concerned. Yssie probably knows for sure, but I think that I remember hearing that 14k RG will have a slightly pinker tint to it than 18kt, but don't take my work for it. I mention it because I'm wondering if you were leaning toward a more pink option that perhaps you could request that your setting be made with 14kt as opposed to 18kt.. but again, I don't know this to be fact and it should be investigated further.
