Might have made a bad purchase

Oh my Lord, you guys. She just sent a video of the ring. My heart zinged! The light play is amazing!! Is there a way to embed the video here?

I love it and don't think you over payed (although I have to say personally maybe I'd ask them to finesse the prongs a bit?)

i'm no expert on moonstones but when they look like icy juicy gumdrops like that i think those are special ... it doesn't look like you made a bad decision given the stones + hefty wg setting.

I think you did very well! I have been eyeing the price of moonstones and they have just been going up and up... and the ones in this ring look very gorgeous.

Thanks! I will apply myself to this! The video isn't already on YouTube; it is in mp4 format, sent directly from her phone. Oh dear. Time to ask my husband for help; he's an IT wizard. :)

Would you make me a comparably bad purchase? Please?
I saw your ring and I couldn't even blink for a while. Fabulous.

That made me chuckle :) You're very sweet! I confess I do spend hours browsing for jewelry each day. I don't buy anything most days, but I have found some seriously awesome stuff in random corners of the Internet. Thank you for validating my taste in rings, lol. My husband saw the ring and said it was weird. I love it and am glad other people love it, too!! After a while of "Honey, are you sure you want that one?" you start wondering if you've gone round the bend.

Thanks!! :) That is a really good point about the prongs. I also felt they were a bit... overmuch, perhaps? But then I wondered if maybe moonstone needs longer prongs than other stones? I wish I knew more about moonstones! I'll reach out to the seller and see if shortening the prongs and maybe making them less intrusive is an option.

"Icy juicy gumdrops" is a fabulous description!! I never would have thought to describe them that way, but it fits them perfectly. I think these are special, too. The video showed such beautiful light flashing from them. I've got to figure out how to post the video!

I can't tell you all how relieved I am that I didn't make a bad decision with this ring. I just had to have it and went a bit mad. Oh, and you're right - the setting is hefty. I should have taken that into consideration when evaluating my purchase.

Thank you so much! :) I really appreciate it! Moonstones really have gone up in price, haven't they? I mentioned earlier in the thread that I read an article from 2015 discussing moonstone prices spiking. Reasons included massive demand from China; increased demand in general, as moonstones have become a more mainstream stone (though this is kind of a chicken-and-egg thing); traditional spots for moonstone extraction running a bit dry (I think Ceylon is one of them); and really nice moonstones being sold from collector to collector, so by the time a person like me wants to buy moonstone, the price has been inflated via being sold from collector to collector. The ones in this ring look really clear, almost like glass, and I was really surprised to see that. It makes me happy that others see the beauty in the ring; my husband thought it was weird-looking :)

:) Thank you, kind friend! An elegant description which is much appreciated.

I have loved moonstones since I was a child. My mother had a moonstone ring and I was in awe of how the light seemed to both reflect from it and echo within it. They really do change colour when allowed to sit in moonlight for a while. It's the strangest thing.

I did not know Bella's ring had a moonstone :) I gave up halfway through the first book! I have to say, Forks, WA is REEEALLLY isolated. Holy smokes. We had terrible cell reception out there.

This is freaking gorgeous!

Thank you!! :) I am enamoured with it! Ridiculously so, in fact!

I'm so glad I figured out how to post a video, without any help from the local IT wizard. Go me!

Gorgeous ring. Your husband will come around.

:) I hope so. He likes moonstones all right; I think he'll adjust, lol.

I really like doing this thing where I put one of my rings on top of my cat's head while he's sleeping. It's his "crown." Does anyone else do that?

The largest percentage of people who would do that are on this forum. The rest of us just wish we could. A photo, by chance?

I like the ring! And, I don’t think you overpaid. In addition to the points other posters have made I think you should consider “scrap” when pricing a piece. A moonstone or two may have been purchased as part of a lot that didn’t match well and weren’t used. It is a unique piece so there might have been multiple CADs or casts done to get the fit between the stones just right. I imagine the jeweler spent a lot of time in the design phase to get those moonstones to fit so well around the main stone. Lastly, those look like really good blue moonstones and if it were me I would pay a premium for stones of that quality. I hope you love it when you receive it.

Yes. My cats are very confused by this.

There's His Lordship, wearing his customary crown. He changes it when the mood suits him and I, his ever faithful valet, favoured member of staff, humble servant of His Lordship, effect said change.

I really hadn't considered many of the points you make here. Especially the complexity in sourcing matching moonstones and CAD designing. Never crossed my mind. I will consider these points the next time I purchase jewelry. Thank you so much for pointing these things out :)

Man, what a strange day. I posted about family stuff on another thread, and then my father-in-law passed away today. My poor husband; he seems to still be in the numb stage. I lost my mother when I was in my 20s; it's very hard.

:) I am so happy others do this. I thought I was the only one! (Why I thought this, I cannot say.) I think my little people are finally starting to get used to it; instead of swatting their wee "crowns" away, as they invariably used to, they just sit there, looking disgruntled.
