you would have to have some prongs to protect the corners and for stability but i am wondering if that hole is to fit a pin from a separate "head" into it?

I am not a jeweler so I can't say for sure but that setting really doesn't look that flexible. If I had to guess, it is sort of like a tension set and the diamond has to fit in that hole. I don't know how much "clamping" the setting can do. My suggestion - get the diamond you want and take it back to the jeweler to get it set. She can't do it .. well "give me back my money because you told me it can fit".

As bgray mentioned, you might be able to get a head on that setting but it will really change the look of it.

It will work ladies, it's a peg head setting. The peg will be put into that hole, and a standard 4 prong head is attached to that, and it's all soldered into the hole. The size of the prong head will be selected based on the diamond size.

Not at all! Because of PS, I've started to talk to Martin at USACERT. I can't wait to post up a finished ring in a month or two or so since they only provide the GIA certificate and send it out to be appraised... it might take a big longer since I can't decide/ narrow it down without seeing anything but the certificate.

However his advice does counter the advice I got from others here when it came to fluoresence and color grade.

I'm hopeful to speak with him more and actually be able to see them in person soon! Ill probably post a new thread to compare and ask for advice from PSers on which stone is best.
