Hey everyone, so I've decided I want a yellow gold wedding band instead of the traditional white gold band that goes with my ring. My engagment ring is 6mm & FI & I saw some bands this weekend at Zales/Kay (I know, lots of people don't like those stores, but I went to just check out the rings this weekend). They are very dainty & I am thinking of wearing them eventually on my ring finger...We are going to Colombia the following week & will meet w our jewler over there. I posted last week about downsizing the ring, well I decided not to...anyway here are the wedding bands:

I am leaning towards all of them...jaja but I am still torn...

Does anyone here have mismatched gold/white gold rings? I notice they aren't popular in the United States, but in some Latin American countries I've been to I have seen the mismatched white/gold rings...

Will 10k gold hold well next to 14k gold? Will the mixed metals cause the white gold to change colors faster? Sorry if stupid questions but I need honest thoughts...this is my ring again (it's a 6mm, many of these rings are 2mm)

Thanks AprilBaby :) I really love the idea of Yellow Gold & White Gold, I am just mostly worried w/ the wear/tear possible discoloration. Oh & to clarify, the ring will be made in Colombia again, but modeled after the Zales/kay rings

I wear a rose gold wedding ring and platinum ering. I love the look of mixed metals.

My engagement ring is platinum and my wedding band (was my mother's) is 14kt yellow gold. I like mismatched metals as well. ::)

I personally like the first ring you linked the most. I think the milgraining and detail will be 'matchy' enough for your e-ring, and the two different metal colors add a bit of interest.

Who ever said matching was good or necessary?

You are free to like whatever you like.

I wear mixed metals all the time!!! You might want to keep them both 14K though.

I like mixing the metal colors. In fact, I own a tri color (white, yellow, rose gold) rolling ring that I wear with my white gold solitaire. Wear what makes you happy.

Edited to add: the rolling ring was my mom's too

I am glad you decided to keep your e-ring as is! It's lovely.
Sure you can match the colors.
Stylewise, I like nr 1 or nr 3 the best with your e-ring because of the classic appearance.

I have a platinum e-ring and wear a rose gold/diamond wedding band. On my right hand, I have about 9 diamond rings and/or bands that I wear as a stacking set (not all at once, I mix and match maybe 3 or 4 rings at a time) and they are mixed metals of platinum, yellow gold, and rose gold.

It's not a good idea in terms of durability. The two different metals will rub against each other and the white gold is much harder than the yellow gold. It will scratch the yellow.

I love mixed golds.

I love that look! But hey, I love any combination, so I guess I'm not that good of an advisor  ... but I do think Laila may have a good point - be sure the metals will 'play nice' when they are together. You'd hate to damage one ring as a result of the other being next to it.

I have worn my plain YG band beside my platinum 3 stone and beside my 18K wg rings with no noticeable damage to either (but its not a long term combination, I flip my rings around all the time!)

Go with what you love, would be my bottom line!

I like mixing metals, and I'm really glad you didn't downsize your ring! It's such a beauty!

Your e-ring is beautiful and looks lovely on your long finger (lucky you!!).

I think it's a matter of personal preference as far as mixing metals is concerned. Try both on with the e-ring to see which YOU prefer :appl: :wavey:

Quick question: is a 2mm wedding band super tiny next to a 6mm e ring?

I'd recommend trying it on. I actually ordered two white and yellow metal (argentium silver and 14k yellow gold filled) rings off of Etsy just to play around and see which color I liked more, and to my surprise I *love* the combination of white and yellow!

Hey everyone, back from Colombia & I found out that my FI got the yellow gold bands (plain, but very delicate yelow gold ones) I am happy but I guess you can say that I am never satisifed jajaja, so before I left I went to Zales & matched up a white gold band w/ milgrain to match my E-ring...it is very cheap for a wedding band...should I ask the FI to purchase it for me as well as w/ the yellow gold bands...I don't want you to think I am ungrateful, the truth is I am not...I imagined he would get a yellow gold wedding band. He got one for him too (so I don't have to purchase any wedding bands)

This is what it looks like:
http://www.zales.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11791760

Truthfully, I will probably just wear that band along w/ the yellow gold band & not wear the E-ring.

It would be for aesthetic reasons (& my own vainity jajaja) I just feel that he would be annoyed if I asked him to get the white gold matching band from Zales...the only thing I would have to do is get it sized. Or should I purchase it myself & just be honest w/ him? He already does so much for me...is it too much to ask?

Anyone?

Get what you like, and be honest with him. Best wishes to you both!

When I reset my ering stone into a white gold, I thought my yellow gold band would have to move to my right hand. While I do wear it there, I wear it stacked with my ering and another, delicate pave set ring, just as much. I like the contrast, and it looks perfect next to or between the other two.

So, my advice is: if you like the look, go for it!

adding: it's been years since I've seen it, because an aunt who lived far away, then since passed away, inherited it, but: my grandmother's wedding band was a simple platinum band. At some point it cracked. They had it fixed, but my grandfather then bought my nanna two yellow gold bands to flank it, to 'give it strength' (nanna's words, years ago.) I loved the way it looked stacked like that. She wore the set with a yellow gold family band ring made of stones representing all her children. So...make the stack that speaks to you. I'm sure it will be beautiful.

Hi caribbeanbridetobe :wavey:
So, if i was in your place, i'd get the band myself. Your fiance has already bought for you a gorgeous engagement ring and both your wedding bands, so i guess he has been so good and so generous already! The ring that you like is not expensive at all, so if you can afford it, just get it and tell your fiance that you appreciate so much the band that he has bought for you but you just thought it would be nice to also have this ring, in order to alternate your stacks! It will really give you many options and you can make so many beautiful combinations afterwards! I don't think that your fiance will have any problem with this and you will get exactly what you want...which is everything, hehehehe!
In fact, this is exactly what happened in my case too!!! Back then DH got me the ER (well, actually he got the first ER, then another one and then he upgraded the second one right before the wedding, but that's another story!!!) and then he got our matching wedding bands in WG. I thought it would be great to also have a half eternity diamond band to alternate the styles, so i just went out and bought one for myself! No worries...get what you like and i'm sure everything will be alright :wavey:
Make sure that you come back with pics of all those beautiful rings though ;))

I'm sure if you just bought the band you want, and wore it with your wedding set, or wedding ring, your husband wouldn't mind and in fact if he's anything like my man, he may not even notice!
Praps just wait for a month after the wedding though lol, there'll be a lot of attention on your left hand ring finger until then.
I have recently started wearing all sorts of rings that I have bought on my left hand, alongside my wedder. My husband hasn't looked twice.

This was the first thing I thought as well - dang, when is this guy gonna catch a financial break? The band you like is a pittance,in terms of jewelry budget. If you want it, buy it for yourself. You can alternate it with the ring he purchased you, or wear them together, or stop wearing his altogether when enough time has passed that your ring finger isn't the center of attention. I just think if you've decided you want something else, it's up to you to pay for it.

I agree with those who are saying purchase the ring yourself caribbeanbridetobe. It's inexpensive, and if you really have your heart set on it I would go for it! I think it's nice to have a diamond band, very versatile.

I like mixed gold when they are mixed in one piece. Like a two tone or three tone setting, then you can wear mix match with other pieces because they are tied together. I also lean towards symmetry. If you were to have a white gold or plat ER and wanted yellow gold bands I would probably wear one on each side for balance.

I have bought so many stacking rings over our 27 years of marriage he doesn't even realize anymore. I agree buy it yourself and enjoy the one he gave you and at the same time one you purchased yourself

I agree buy it yourself. Wear it, your gold w band, then your e ring. Like a little gold sandwhich.

The band on your ering looks no wider than 3mm, so I think that a 2mm wedding band would be perfect. I wear two 2mm bands with my 3 stone ring...one is platinum and the other is rose gold. I love mixing metals! Here's a photo for reference both on color and mm width...

Very pretty migrain band! All your rings should be gorgeous together.
