More rock collecting (nephrite and jadeite)

Oops, I forgot the reply about the yellow beads. I have also gone back and forth on what they are. I agree that a loupe and a good pen light will help me see the structure and hope I can tell. I do think you are right and if not jadeite, absolutely a string of quartz.

Late to the party, but congrats on your fabulous jade haul!! One day I hope to own some fine lavender jadeite. :kiss2:

P.S. So sorry about the bangle... that breaks my heart. Glad you had so many over lovelies to compensate!!

Thanks @Autumn in New England. This has been such a fun experience.
I would definitely recommend lavender beads. In person they are so delicate on the skin. I found a picture with Rhianna rocking some yummy lavender.
I love it on her - I think it would suit all skin tones.

@Crimson you called it. The yellow beads are quartz, or something not jade. The vendor allowed a return.

Wow, glad you are getting your money back - and can go shopping again. Been meaning to say I love your new profile pic!
I am watching this on auction, just for fun.IMG_0106.jpeg

Thank you. I bought a cheap USB microscope and have found it very helpful to see structure and check for dye. I loved how well it shows the color and the crystal structure. I have not posted them yet, but I have several more estate necklaces coming in. I will post at some point when they get here. The strand on the left to the yellow beads was a new acquisition. It seems nice, well matched and appropriately heavy. While not super translucent, it does have a nice glow against the skin. I intend to bathe and restring this weekend.

Wow, that ring is quite saturated! That will be fun to see where it comes out. I love the lavender against the skin so much. Bet it is beautiful on!

My new project: rehab this jade necklace for my sister. Spa day will include a good washing, removing a couple ugly beads, removing the sterling beads and reknotting. I think it is untreated. Looked at it under the microscope and the color is even. Meaning to say no clumps of dye. Surface is normal for untreated variations. Hers is the string on the right in the light. Nice saturation of a light green. Here is the before:IMG_2244.jpegIMG_2232.jpeg

Ooh, I should get a USB microscope too. One of the reasons I love gems so much is that it is possible to be really nerdy about them - Read, do fieldwork, investigate, classify, judge etc. Gosh. You,do take good care of your jewellery.

Spa day! Whee! Your gems are so lucky.
How nice that your sister likes jadeite beads too :kiss2:
