I really want to get my hands on one of these beauties... any suggestions?

Thanks in advance. :)

wow Chrono - awesome website - do you know if I can get one set in a halo, or is it better to buy loose and set it?

Paraiba International did not have anything for sale.

Sure, they do, unless somehow I'm not quite understanding what you mean.

Personally, I prefer to buy the stone myself (better selection and less limitation) and get a setting for it later separately.

I like morganite. I used to think they were kind of too pale but now that I've seen some nicer well cut ones I've changed my tune. Pastels are lovely.

How durable is morganite? Also I've never seen one in person but are they sparkly or more glowy or is it cut dependent?

Morganite is the trade name for pink beryl. It is not an everyday wear stone. It has low RI (not sparkly unless it has a super busy cut) and like it's kin, aquamarine, is more prone to chipping than other gem varieties.

Roger Dery http://www.spectralgems.net/ has had some beautiful morganite on his site in the past. Right now he has only one stone that doesn't float my boat, but you might ask him if he has others that aren't up.

Have you put a Morganite stone on your hand (assuming you want a ring)? I love Morganite BUT I'm naturally a Morganite colour and it therefore looks absolutely awful with my skin tone and just merges into me!!!

Some Morganites are quite pink and others vere towards a brownish pink - do you know which you want?

Here's a few against skin so you can see what I mean (clearly ignore if you're a different skin tone)!

Top photo is a pink/peach pear shape and as you can see I really am Morganite colour!

The second photo has two pinker Morganites (the top trilliants) next to beryls. Again, you can see the pale pink doesn't stand out much against my skin.

Last photo shows you my two larger pieces and they are at opposite ends of the Morganite colour spectrum!

Hope these help.

I'm gonna slightly hijack the thread here. I'm obsessed with the look of morganite in a rose gold halo, and have been on a search myself, but I definitely like sparkle. Since morganite has a low RI, do you think you could get the same effect but better dispersion with a peachy-pink malaya garnet?

Good to know its not especially durable. Also good to know that it can be quite similar to flesh tone - or at least for some of us and I think I might be one of those people. There is still something really attractive about the paleness and delicateness of the color.

I have a pale pink tourmaline that is beautiful-- cut by Barry Bridgstock http://www.acstones.com/
It is beautiful and goes from a pinkisk lavender to pinkish peach depending on the light. Seems similar to the better morganite.

A Malaia garnet will definitely sparkle better but they are also more strongly coloured, so if you want something pale, it isn't a good choice.

Erin,
Barry cuts a mean stone, doesn't he? Lovely tourmaline.

Chrono--

It is the only faceted Barry stone I own. The faceting is gorgeous and because of that, I doubt I will ever let it go. Its low in the queue for setting though--too many to set, not enough funds and gold is way too high.

Fanofhardrock--
Barry doesn't seem to do many cutting orders, but you may want to ask him too if he has any morganite. Or light pink tourmaline like mine. If it were me, I would pick the tourmaline, I think it has a higher R.I.

Erinl - your Tourmaline is gorgeous and I see a distinct difference from Morganite. It's truly lovely and not at all flesh coloured!
