Air on G string (bach) for the processional
Arioso (bach) for bride''s processional
Bittersweet Symphony (instrumental) for the recessional

I like contempory music but classical instrumentals are timeless. The recessional is a combination of contemporary yet that timeless quality.

I walked up the aisle to Vangelis'' Hymne played on the piano. Its a beautiful piece of music. I must admit I did get funny looks when I told people we were using a Vangelis piece. I think they had images of me legging it up the aisle to Chariots of Fire!

We had a guitarist and he played a toned down version of the ND fight song (no one but my parents, DH, one guest and me knew what it was, it just sounded like a soft little diddy) for the processional and "When I''m 64" by The Beatles for our recessional.

Crap. I'm getting all choked up reading about these songs! Can I play even though we're eloping and there is only the "music" of the birds and the water for our ceremony? I always thought if we'd had a proper wedding, I'd have "God Only Knows" (Beach Boys) for the processional because that's one of FI's most all time fav songs from his youth and it gets me all verklempt thinking about using it as a wedding song.

Recessional would be old school standard, like "Let's Fall In Love" or something like that.

First dance would have to be "Someone Like You", Van Morrison.

I think if someone was getting married in the woods or a woodsy setting, Erik Satie's Gymnopede (sp?) music would be hypnotic and magical for a seating/processional...Sort of like Midsummer Night's Eve type of music...

We had an AMAZING pianist and strings for our wedding. Here''s how our music went:

Parents/Grandparents: Jesu Joy of Man''s Desiring (at the request of my mother)
Bridesmaids: Cannon in D (one of my favorites from when I played piano as a girl.)
Bridal Processional: Somewhere in Time, which is my FAVORITE piece of music ever. I about melted when my pianist played it for me during our consultation (from memory of course) "Oh, you mean this?" he said.
Recessional: Ode to Joy (My Husband''s favorite piece)

Oooohh, great idea! I might suggest it to my FI. We don''t have a song, so we''re thinking of all the usuals, but this one seems a little lesser known. I like that. I love Van Morrison! It''s funny, as fantastic as he is, his concerts actually aren''t all that great. He doesn''t engage the audience AT ALL. He comes on stage, does his thing, then walks off at the end. His musical talents are fabulous...his social skills, not so much.

I feel like I should know Somewhere in Time but I can''t place it. I''d ask you how it goes, but that seems like a silly question. How do you hum over the internet?

Ode to Joy -- is that the Quaker hymn? Again, I feel as if I should know this. Wait, I might be thinking of the one that goes, "It''s a gift to be simple, it''s a gift to be free..." Oh, I don''t know!

i''m going down the aisle to Moon River from Breakfast at Tiffany. I love the feeling and the solemn moon it exudes.

I love all the choices! Wonderful World is great, I used it in my son''s bar mitzvah video...

I think The Way You Look Tonight is great as well.

Our first dance was Elvis, Can''t Help Falling in Love with You, but cannot remember the other stuff, it was likely more traditional, and I had a harpist and a flutist and violinist playing down at the gazebo, and then the band in the room where dinner was. I sure it was something very run of the mill, but not totally recalling it now.

Ode to Joy is also known as Beethoven''s 9th symphony. I am sure you have heard it in passing. There is a sound clip at the bottom of the wikipedia page.

Oh, I meant to add that you can hear a clip of "Somewhere in Time" here:

I play the hammered dulcimer and can think of nothing better than hammered dulcimer music for my wedding! I''d love to have someone play classical music on the dulcimer, like Pachelbel''s Canon, a Bach prelude or two, Jesu, etc. I actually played with a professional dulcimist when I was in college, and I was planning to ask her to play, but she moved out of state and probably couldn''t make it to NYC for the wedding. I may actually be playing dulcimer for my friend''s wedding if she decides to go that way with her music, so I''ll have a pretty good idea of what works after I''m done!

I have a friend who''s nowhere near getting married, but she''s planned out all the music from her ceremony, mostly these huge choral and orchestral pieces. She was a music major, so it makes sense, but I still think it''s funny!
