I just discovered that my diamond in my Mark Morrell Sunburst is loose.

I''m terrified of giving it to an unskilled jeweler who might mess up the beautiful prongs while tightening them. Can anyone recommend a tried and trusted local jeweler? I''m in Ann Arbor, MI. I know Pearlman''s is about 1.5 hours away, but I''m hoping for closer if at all possible. Thanks!

Have you check with MM see what is his recommendation?

Not yet. His site recommends that you find a local jeweler and build a good relationship with them so that when the need arises you have somebody to turn to. He tends to be so busy that I imagine he can''t possibly respond to every sizing/polish/repair request he gets. Also, insured shipping each way, plus his time, would be expensive. I''ve had the ring since Sep ''07, which falls well outside his 1 year free-maintenance window.

With all that has been spent on such a mounting, the cost of overnite UPS to MWM is not an unreasonable cost compared to a botched repair job. Why not give MWM a call and see what can be done before you make a potentially poor decision?

I am emailing Mark now, but I would still very much appreciate recommendations for local jewelers if anyone can give them. Thanks!

I''ve used Urban Jewellers on Main and been satisfied. There''s another shop on Main whose work I like. I don''t remember the name though. It''s near Subway and in the basement of a building with green doors.

Thanks, Harriet. The subway on Main is no longer there, so I''m not sure of the location you''re speaking of. I seem to remember it was near the Starbucks - does that sound right? Do any of these store names spark a memory?

My experience with Mark several years ago was that he wouldn''t do repairs to his pieces. He suggested I find a local jeweler.

It''s C.W. Petersen. See if Ben, the benchguy, is still there.

This is very good to know as I was going to have him do a ring for me.

Thanks.

So, Mark got back to me and said I could send the ring to him for a tune-up if I couldn''t find anyone local I felt comfortable with. I think in this case we will take him up on his kind offer. Perhaps I can convince hubby that in order to get some experience with local jewelers that I need to do some shopping. Perhaps find myself a colored gem and then go looking for a setting (and somebody to set it)? Hmmmmmmm.......

Thank you, Harriet, for your jeweler suggestions. I might have to stop in to those places next time I''m downtown just to have a look-see.

That''s great, lady!! I''m glad that Mark is going to be the only one putting hands on it.
