My grandmother left this to me in her will. I''ve had it for quite awhile now. All I know about it is that it is over 100 years old, the diamonds are old-mine cut, 2 carats (approx) total weight and the setting is platinum. One of the stones is chipped and I''m not sure whether I should have it polished out or if I should try to replace it.

Anyway, this is my place-holder bling until my VC comes back with my new diamond!!!

Oh Mariposa--what a wonderful ring! It''s beautiful and so nice that you have something from your Grandmother!
WoW--love those OMCs!

Oooh, I''ve never seen a setting like that! What a beautiful heirloom piece. My family has always been big on collecting gold, but not diamonds. I must say that I am envious, in the most good-natured way, of all you girls with the invaluable heirlooms. But I stand to inherit a lot of 24k, though

It looks really great on you Mariposa, how nice that you have so many lovely, interchangeable pieces!

That is a really pretty heirloom piece! I''m another one that doesn''t have any heirloom jewelry coming. No one in our family ever wore much jewelry or had any diamonds.....oh well, I l ike enjoying everyone else''s though!

How beautiful and how lucky you are to have something from your grandmother!! What a treasure!

That''s a beautiful ring! And how lucky you are to be able to pass that down through your family.

It''s lovely!

How astonishingly lovely and graceful! Please post more pics? Puhleeeeeeeeeeese?

Here are a few more. I''ll try to get some better ones tomorrow when it''s brighter outside. This first one shows the chip pretty well.

Thank you for all the compliments!! I feel honored that my grandmother wanted me to have it.

Mariposa, these last shots are even more beautiful! But you''ve always been a wiz with the camera, I can''t wait to see the sunny pics.

Sorry if you''ve mentioned this already and I missed it, but do you practice photography professionally? And furthermore, are you available on the weekend of March 7th? I''m getting married...

Oh how pretty! I love antique jewelry, and of course your ring is so special being a family piece. Anyway we could get another closer pic to see the cut of the stones a little better?

Lovely!

Lucky you to have such a special piece from your grandmother! I believe I would try to have the stone repaired.

Are you changing the diamond in your VC ring?

Oops I just noticed I''d missed the last couple of pics.

I just saw on the VC thread that you are getting a new ring! That''s great! I hope you are feeling much better!

How beautiful....what a special heirloom piece...thank you for sharing it with us!!!

What a beautiful ring! The diamonds are gorgeous and so is that setting! Not to mention that it''s an heirloom-that''s so special!

P.S. If it were me, I''d probably leave the chipped stone-it just adds character and history, in my opinion!

Thank you so much everyone!

Somehowcollide - WOW, what a huge compliment. I always thought I was a pretty crappy photographer, I think the quality of my pics have a lot to do with the camera and with the fact that I take about a million pics and then choose maybe two that I like. Anyway, THANKS!!

Skippy123 - Thank you, butterflies have taken on a more special, symbolic meaning for me over the past several months. And to think, I originally chose that name because it happens to be my husband''s favorite Spanish word!

diamondseeker2006 - I''m actually upgrading (to a small degree) the center stone in my engagement ring. I''m going from a 0.52 E Si1 ACA to a 0.58 D VS1 ACA. I''ve always wanted a D color diamond and I''m also thrilled about the improved clarity!!! Also, once my chemo''s over, I will be getting a new VC beauty to commemorate the event! Who says cancer is ALL bad!!??
