Hi All - I'm new to posting but am a longtime lurker and lover of old cuts -- and all antique/estate jewelry, really. I'm so appreciative of all of you and the zillions of hours I've spent learning through all of your posts...thank you all many, many times over.
Not sure if I'm doing this properly, but finally (finally!) got around to shooting some pics of my 7.16 ct OEC - makes me happy whenever I see it, so it's my Happy Ring!

After owning a few different stones/cuts/colors/settings over the years (perhaps some of you can relate?!), I couldn't deny that I've always been an old cut girl. (My original e-ring from 16 years ago is an old cut, and I still love her.) I found this stone when I was not really looking (isn't that just how it is?), and could not get it out of my head...the cut and facet pattern just grabbed me like no other I'd ever seen. I could go on and on about her, but the pictures (I hope) say it better than I ever could. Set in a temp mounting for now; finger size just over a 4. I know these pics aren't the greatest, but they're truly the best I could manage.

7.16 cts, GIA N VVS2, no fluor. Hope you like her half as much as I do! Cheers. :wavey:

Holy guacamole!!!! That is SOME ring. I love Old Cuts too, and the sheer size of yours just blows me away!!!! You must have fun staring at the pattern in it?

Another photo (sorry, don't know how to attach >1 per post). Thanks for bearing with my not-great photo skills, too...

Wow! That is a show stopper! More pics please!

WOWZER, holy mother of bling! :love: :cheeky: :love: :cheeky: :love: That stone is incredible. You must get hours of joy just staring at the lightshow. You MUST share more photos from every possible angle. {faints now}

Holy Toledo! That's a golf ball.. I LOVE IT!!!!

That is a huge stone!!! Congrats!

Well, I'm speechless. Simply stunning!

Thank you all so much for your comments! And yes, I do find myself getting lost in the facets when I'm supposed to be doing almost anything else. Thanks so much for appreciating this stone as much as I do. It was a belated major anniv. present/upgrade, found after many years of dealing with medical stuff which we managed to navigate through - which probably helped us make the decision to get it (no time like the present, huh).

Forgot to add a couple of basic stats: diameter is (avg) 12.2 mm; table 44%; depth 62.1%.

And if anyone has any ideas about setting, I'd love to hear any and all of them...I have a couple of thoughts, but really want to cast a wide net now that I have some time to explore a bit. So bring 'em on, please! (And that goes for a band, too...my old wedding band just doesn't look right.) I'm totally open to all sorts of ideas, but would love to blend this lovely old stone with a (little bit) more contemporary and clean mounting.
Will post a couple more pics but don't want to overwhelm/overstay (I'm actually a pretty shy person although I know that may seem hard to imagine with this stone, but it's true.)

I'm thinking double halo.

(Kidding!!!)

Seriously, no matter how you set that stunner it will be a show-stopper for sure!

A couple more...

OK, here's my first (hokey) attempt at a creative shot, on a mossy rock - thought it'd add some interesting contrast.

I'll try to do some more interesting shots in a bit. Thanks again for looking and for your gracious comments and compliments; I appreciate every one. I'll respond individually shortly, too; I figured for now, it was more important to get these photos uploaded while I was on a roll with my computer skills!

HI:

Love it--great decision! Wear it in health.....and some profile shots if you can!

cheers--Sharon

Wow - what a rock! That stone gives some serious finger coverage! Congrats on finding your Happy Ring!

Thud. That was the sound of my jaw hitting the keyboard!! A 7+ carat stone on a size 4 finger??? Holy finger coverage batman!!!

As for the setting, I'd be calling Singlestone in a heartbeat. They have so many gorgeous settings, ranging from the most simple (yet elegant and stunning) to ornate. I know Ari would help you find the perfect setting!

If I may ask, where did you find this monster?? (I was going to say baby, but babies are small and that's no small stone! )

it looks great on you!

and for the record: that's not a rock......its a boulder!

congrats!

HoLY GOLF BALLS BATMAN!!! That is just insane...wow oh WOW!

Gooooooooooooooooooodness! Wear that honker in health and happiness! We want more pics if you can....that diamond is screaming for a photo session. :wink2: (pretty please)

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. Drool. Drool. Drool. I have been reduced to a mumbling idiot.

I seriously almost spit out my wine and dropped my iPad in my haste to open this thread. Oh MY!

If that gorgeous baby was mine, I'd either do a very delicate halo with a plain shank, or keep it a naked solitaire with small fancy coloured diamond side accents. I'd also wear it with a largish eternity for a wedding band, but I love that overpowering sparkle.
You could always ask Robinson Designer Goldsmith to create a masterpiece of art for you.

I actually plan to do something like I've described, one day ... off I go to dreamland ... la la la ... happy. :))

I'm a size 4.5 I'd love to squeeze my finger into that!! I'm curious how people react to your ring when they see it?

This is a serious and extremely beautiful rock!! Love it!!

At this size and with your small size, I would put her in an elegant solitaire. This rock speaks for herself. She is actually gorgeous in this temp setting too  .

That is just so, so ,so, so stunning! My word it looks enormous on your finger!
I don't think you should go with a halo or sidestones (where would they fit?) but I think a really ornate basket and profile would work beautifully with that stone and emphasise the old world elegance.

Gemmy, all I can say is Wow! That is possibly the largest OEC I have ever seen and we need more pictures woman!!! There is no such thing as overwhelming a thread with pics here. That is the point of this section. :appl:

I think the temporary setting looks great with this diamond and if you reset a solitaire is the way to go because this baby is the star of this show that's for sure! Wear in health and happiness and please, we need more pics. Lots more pics. :cheeky:

Ok, first things first.

Please, please clean that baby. Soft baby brush, windex or dish soap. Scrub scrub scrub. Dip in rubbing alcohol. Air dry or use a can of compressed air. Only then will we be able to appreciate its full beauty.

Then come back and post a million pics so I can die happy.

Thank you.

  OMG that is a HUGE ring!!! It is beautiful ~~ congratulations

Holy moly- that is amazing!
Like you I am a long time lurker, and I can only hope that when I finally find my replacement engagement ring, that it is half the size of yours! Just amazing :appl:

If it was mine (don't I wish!) I would have it set in a simple solitaire setting with very fine double claw prongs, maybe in rose gold if it suits the colour in real life and a very small eternity ring, like a tiny micro pave one in matching gold-obviously you must do what you like though, you definitely have a once in a life time rock

Your size four fingers send me green eyed though- lucky duck

How is the colour in real life, I think you said it was an N? Does the colour seem greater due to the size? Is it warm from the top or the sides? Sorry, just wondering how the N colour affects it in real life. I don't have any experience of warmer colours in real life and I would love to know how it is in such a gorgeous large stone. I don't think we have many OEC in Australia, and after spending countless hours here I have the OEC bug!

And definitely post more pictures if you can, some from different angles would be great!

Sorry for such a. Long post, now I am off to tell hubby LOOK at this one!
So excited for you

Amy

Love it! I'd figure out what you want and then call Singlestone or Victor Canera. I just went thru this with my new 7.08 MRB and I ended up going with Singlestone. So far so good although I do not have the ring in hand yet. Looks like a fun project!

Holy gorgeous ring!! You are a lucky lady -everything about that stone is perfection.
