My 7.16 ct OEC Happy Ring

WOW~!

Wow! It's huge! Amazing  :appl:   More pics please!

That is quite amazing! What a gorgeous stone! I love Yenny's suggestion about Singlestone, and Jane's about the fancy colored accents! And Robinsons would most surely create a one of a kind masterpiece. How fortunate you are to have found such an amazing stone. It is so beautiful it would really be just fine the way it is! Congratulations! Oh how we would all love to see that baby in person!

Wow — that is just a stunner! Jaw dropping and amazing and I bet you have to put it away to get anything done in real life, or else the distraction is too much. Congrats!

Congratulations!...She is a real beauty!

Happy ring, indeed! It is magnificent.

:o Wow, that is a HUGE OEC!!!!!! My goodness!!!

I'd second Singlestone or Victor Canera.

Here's an antique setting that would work well with a huge stone:

I love the look of that setting too but if you like the look of that then try Singlestone because Victor Canera won't do that profile with all the pave on the basket. I tried.

Oh, or the gorgeous Steven Kirsch Rosebud!

I certainly am anxious to see yours, too! :appl:

Thanks diamondseeker. I'm nervously waiting hoping I didn't create a huge gaudy ring! :errrr:
I like that Steven Kirsch rosebud as well. Clean lines but you still get all the pave detail on the basket.

Singlestone's work is exquisite...I have seen Yenny's two gorgeous rings! No way will it be anything but beautiful!

Oh my, your diamond is mesmerizing!! I am bowled over by the rarity of such a stone, and of course the size! It is gorgeous, and very, very special. How fascinating that it has survived all these years, and remained in such pristine condition - finally to end up on your finger! :appl:

Hi everybody - First of all, thanks so much for all of your kind words and congratulations. I appreciate them all tremendously and am thrilled to have posted and uploaded and intro'd myself to so many whose rings (and wisdom) I've long admired. Thank you each and every one many times over for sharing my joy and enthusiasm about this stone. I do know just how fortunate I am in all respects and how lucky I am to have found it and to be able to be the current guardian of this stone.
Now to the questions:

* Where/how did I find the stone? Total chance and serendipity! The short version: I'd been thinking of trying to find a large OEC for awhile but so much else was going on that I hadn't really gone 'on the hunt'...I'd kept my eyes open and looked in all the usual places (online and off), but nothing hit me (and I already had a smaller antique e-ring I loved, so no worries or rush). Well over a year ago, I was early for a meeting in a nearby town. Walked by a small, family-owned jewelry store I'd never been in, spied a lovely, fancy yellow dia ring in a delicate setting in the window, figured I had 15 min to kill so why not venture in and take a look?

After admiring the yellow ring, I got to talking with the owner about how much I really loved vintage/antique jewelry. He went in the back and returned with this (loose) stone. I was floored - it was pretty instant love/lust/etc. Never in a million years did I imagine he'd pull out a stone like that! I really, really liked it - the combination of size and faceting was like no other stone I'd seen in many, many years of studying and collecting -- but I had to go, so got the stats and tried to put it out of my mind. I'm pretty sure he thought I was utterly nuts and just another looky-loo.

Fast forward over a month. We'd gone on vacation, come back, dealt with a recurring health problem, celebrated an anniversary...all the while, this stone was just sitting quietly in the back of my brain. I thought long and hard about if it would work in my life, how often I'd wear it, whether I could deal with the color - all that stuff. Being away was almost like a forced cooling-off period, which let me really process things without as much emotion.

Conclusion: I was smitten. But, I needed to confirm just how unique and special it was and then make the $ part of it work.

Finally had a chance to return, looked more seriously and analytically at it and was still in love/lust/etc.
Discussed it w/ DH, did my homework on comps, sought out other options, thought more about if it'd truly fit my casual lifestyle...and a few days later, we went in together, examined it again, did some negotiating -- and that was it. Got the stone re-certed & appraised, put it in the current temp mounting, and have loved it every.single.moment since!

Anyway, that's the scoop. Finding this stone could not have been more serendipitous; if I'd tried, I couldn't have found a better match (or at least not without some likely angst and agita).

So you all wanted more pics; I read the tutorial and just snapped these for now. Hope you enjoy (even though I still have a ways to go skillwise). Also, I know there were a couple of other questions which I'll get to shortly but I figure I've talked enough for now. Thanks again for being interested!

I don't think I have ever seen an OEC this large and faceted so beautifully. The color is so warm and yummy. Wear her in good health and enjoy finding her a perfect home .

I had to go back and look at the stats again because I couldn't believe them! Such a gorgeous, wonderfully faceted stone. I love serendipitous stories like yours of how they come to find new owners...it's just so perfect! Enjoy your beautiful *honker* :appl:

Gorgeous pictures of a spectacular stone! I can't wait to see what you decide for a forever home. :appl:  :appl:

What a great story about how you and your diamond "found each other"! I think that's great! And obviously the jeweller knew you were seriously someone who appreciated vintage and the unique stones he may come across! I'm so glad that it worked out :appl:

+1...this is what I am thinking. I don't remember one this large. So beautiful! Congratulations!!

Thanks for all the great setting suggestions and ideas, and again for all of your kind comments. My mind is spinning with setting thoughts! I'm going to follow up w Ari & VC, take some time to narrow it down and then will probably be back asking for opinions and help. Any and all thoughts are welcome!
The camera battery died, but am getting a new one and will post some profile/other angle pics as soon as I can. Meantime, thought I'd respond to a couple of questions...
* How do people react to this ring? They either ignore it or ask about the cut/size/sparkle. Surprisingly to me, many men ask about the cut...they know it looks 'different' (apart from size) and they're curious about it. Women generally want to know the ctw. I do spend time in a major city where large rings are very common, and it doesn't get much notice given all the large, colorless MRBs (and other cuts) walking around.

I should add that I'm very conscious and thoughtful about where and when I wear it (and not). I never want to feel uncomfortable, awkward, embarrassed about wearing it (or have anyone else feel that way). I wear the stone often, but I always think about how appropriate it is; if there's any question in my mind, I wear my (much) smaller old e-ring. Also, I tend to dress very simply, don't drive a fancy/flashy car and I'm pretty low-key in general.

* What's the color like IRL and how does an N color look in this size stone? I can definitely see the tint in some lighting conditions and from the profile view. Most of the time, it faces up a warm white/ivory-ish, kind of vanilla...personally, I like the color and think it works with my skintone. It helps that the color's evenly distributed in the stone (to my eye, at least) and the faceting works with it, too. But it's definitely not anywhere near the gorgeous, cool, icy white of a colorless stone.

Having loved and looked at old stones for many years, I knew what I was getting into here. I figured I'd probably end up with an OEC that was a (GIA) J/K color, and I'd seen a GIA M that I liked a lot. I hadn't honestly considered an N, but found that it didn't bother me a bit once I saw this stone. The whole package just looked great to my eye, and the color was a big part of the stone's charm.

Sorry to drone on so long. I'll try to post profile shots etc shortly so you can get a better idea of tint from the side. Thanks again for reading and for all the compliments - I'm glad I'm not the only one who appreciates this stone (as my real-life friends aren't that much into jewelry). Glad to be here among those who are!
