I just received this ring yesterday and took some photos near the window in my office. The setting is 14k solid gold, weighs near 5 grams, and the diamonds are 0.5ct in total, VS2-SI1 clarity.

The emerald is 1.1ct, AGL certified. It has a quite saturated green color with a hint of blue in the sun. But it goes darker indoor when light doesn't hit it. I don't have any experience with emerald before. I was wondering is that some common thing emeralds do?

And three more photos. I was basically over the moon when I opened the box, especially consider how much I paid. Hope you like the photos. Your honest opinion is very appreciated!

VERY pretty! Congrats!

Beautiful ring! I've never owned an emerald, tragically, so can't tell you how they behave in different lights -- but I'm willing to accept one & give a report. :lickout: I can just imagine how thrilled you are!!

Beautiful ring. Quite regal.

Not sure about the different lighting aspects (I've owned a few commercial grade emeralds but never paid much attention and have since sold them all :( But yours is certainly very pretty, I love the color, it looks very nice to me!!

Lovely ring. As with any stone, when taken indoors, they will darken up a little without direct lighting. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by your question. I do notice that my emerald gets bluer under indoor lighting though.

--athenaworth Glad you like it!

--JewelFreak Thank you! I'd love to receive another one for comparison too :D

--indigoblue Thanks! I really hope you can find The sapphire!

--katharath Thanks for the compliment. I am starting to appreciate higher-valued gems such as sapphire and ruby and emerald now, which is bloody painful ;( Cost too much

--Chrono Yes, most stones darken up indoor. But I guess maybe because this stone is pretty saturated and dark in tone/lack of light return due to a low RI it changes pretty dramatically (Darker than most of my gemstones. My other stones are mostly low-medium in tone)

I do not see such a dramatic shift in my emerald.

Lovely ring. I actually have a similar setting, and it's gold, but the diamonds are simulants. I may just use it to set my emerald because yours turned out so beautiful.

Thank you! 8-) Are you setting your 2ct emerald?

Do you notice it darkens more than spinel/garnet indoor?

I actually prefer emeralds indoors. Under artificial light, I think they have such a satiny glow. They do get darker, but not extinct, IMO.

I love your ring! Congrats on finding her!

Glad you like it, I consider myself very lucky because it is my first emerald purchase! Thanks

Will you send it out to determine the level of treatment, or will you just enjoy it as is? It looks great on you - I am realizing how much I LOVE diamonds and green together.

Oops, I see it has been sent out already! Some of us are a bit obtuse from time to time  Anyway, what did AGL say about the emerald? It really looks pretty in the sunlight, but if you are concerned about it going dark, you could take pics and post them here for our experts to see...I myself have only small emeralds in earrings, so I don't know that its a fair comparison, but mine do not go dark in low light, but glow that emerald blue/green glow if that helps at all?
