Hi again, folks. Let''s cut to the chase:

GIA cet.
Round
Select Ideal
1.35 Ct.
F color
SI1
60.8% depth
56% table
VG polish
EX symmetry
Pricescope cut adviser scores it a .7 with other data
No fluor

Seems like a very good choice for my budget (selling price: $8,300). Certificate shows very few crystals or feathers... but does note some "additional clouds not shown." Any concern there?

Am I missing anything? Speak now! As Dr. Frasier Crane would say... "I''m listening."

Hi Jon,

Where''s this diamond from? Is there any way you can request to see the stone, or a picture if it isn''t local?

Diamond is from Union Diamond. I don''t have a photo of it but did receive the full 2006 (detailed) GIA cert image. I really like the specs on the rock and feel very comfortable with the seller (upon research and limited experience with them so far).

More thoughts? Please? I was originally looking at F/VS2 stones -- mostly in the 1.25 carat range. I stepped down in clarity one notch and found this particular specimen, which I am very pleased with (so far!).

Hey -- back to a question in my original post: The certificate shows very few inclusions... yet I know this is SI1 for a reason. It does note "additional clouds not shown." Why aren''t they shown? Is it because they are fairly insignificant or is there another reason GIA leaves some markings off the cert? Always wondered about that.

Anyone? Anyone? Buehler?

Lame effort to bump this thread back up for visibility. Sorry!

Would still love your thoughts, PS gurus!

We need more info (specifically crown and pavilion angles) to really determine the cut quality of the stone. As far as your clarity question, one thing I have found is that a lot of newbies are AMAZED at how "clean" SI stones (graded by reputable labs) can be. Sometimes a stone will be graded SI because of one certain inclusion, or several (or even lots) of smaller ones. Remember, no two diamonds are identical. I would suggest that you ask the vendor to pull the stone and eyeball it for you.

I am interested too. The AGS report on my VS2 asscher says the same thing.

Drawing the clouds would make the chart look MUCH worse than it is in real life.

crown: 35.0
pavillion: 40.6

Any additional thoughts now? I''m hardly an expert, but the numbers all seem to add up nicely.

Thanks for the feedback. Barbara (who seems to have a very good reputation and was quite helpful) at Union Diamonds describes it as an "incredibly beautiful stone." I know... I know... she''s got a vested interest, of course. Am I being too optimistic?? It does seem like a very well cut stone and the best for my budget. I''m realistic, however, and figure there must be some significance to the cloud issue (the chart looks more like a VS1 than an SI1 -- the unshown clouds must be the X factor).

Thanks again to past and future replies!

Happy birthday to me!

I''m old(er). Am I also wiser? Thanks again for any additional thoughts on my purchase.
