A few more, just because.

Thanks for looking! :wavey:
I would stop and GAWK at that set if I saw you on the street!  LOVE the diamond. LOVE the mount. LOVE the band. LOVE the gap. You DO look married! You're killing me with these pics! Ugh. When I see my sister with her set and friends with theirs it so makes me long for a solitaire. Blingy bands are awesome but, for me, it feels semi lacking in the whole feeling married aspect.

As bizarre as it sounds, my blingy right hand look makes me feel way more married (because, er, it's a "mature" set.) But maybe that's because a simple solitaire and plain band resides on my left hand. ::)

I found a single blingy band made me feel very married, it is sure a classy look. Very "mature" indeed. This set makes me feel married and FABULOUS DAH-LING, I just love a big headlight diamond  Obviously, if one can have both then its a win-win. But since I needed to choose one look for financial reasons, the headlight won.

Its funny, I wore my solitaire for... what, a couple months by itself? And although I liked how it looked on its own, adding a wedding band just *completes* the look. I am very pleased :halo:

And TGal yup, the price was right for now and having this band has really helped me to know what I want in the "perfect wedding band" one day. I was unsure about a few things -- width, engraved or plain profile view -- and so having this ring for a test run really helped since I cannot find anything like it locally. Being vintage and die struck my engagement ring is only 1.1mm thick/tall so its near impossible to find anything modern that works as a trial run. But now I know exactly what I want in a wedding band I am more willing to pay for it when a good vintage ring turns up.

Oh and I wanted to say THANKS of course, but also chuckle because no one ever comments on my ring! Rarely. I got way more comments on my blingy band. I definitely see people noticing my ring, my students and shope keepers when I pay for things especially. But no one ever says anything. I am pretty sure everything thinks it is fake  because where I live it is just over the top. But I don't care I love it so much I am still dancing a little jig every time I look at it. And if we ever run into one another I would love it if you stopped and gawked! :sun:

I think this band looks great with your ring Dreamer! I understand that you will still look for one that you feel is even more perfect, but honestly in the interim this one looks lovely and works really well with your ering - Makes that rock look even a little bigger! :naughty:

yeah, the low rise would be tough to match, but I am sure it can be done! My eternity ring (the one I use as a spacer) is less than 1mm rise, and I honestly don't know how it holds its shape when my Leon Amelia ring warps (although, admittedly that one is a half size too big while the spacer ring is the perfect size).

I bought both eternity bands to pair with my 3 stone BEFORE I ever saw my 3 stone done. Yeah, I'm cray cray, but it all worked out perfectly!

But man, yours is a LOW rise ring for holding up such a substantial rock!

TGal I will be curious to see how it wears, but being die struck metal -- and the resizing was done with hand forged metal -- I am hopeful it will work out. The basket being so large might also help. The large "donut" (though my ring doesn't have a donut, you get my point) is a really strong base for the basket and is fully 6mm wide at its base. So far no warping at all or even any dings or dents in the metal.

I have found a few bands with the right rise in vintage rings. The seller of this particular band said it was 1.20 - 1.25mm but my own calipers say its 1.3mm, and its just enought that I can notice the diffence in rise between it and my e-ring. As junebug said, though, it is certainly good enough until I find that *just right* band! I did not want to go bandless for much longer, it was bugging me not having a wedding band. Waiting for that perfect vintage band in my size and the right proportions is probably going to take a long time.

Meh, the search is fun, and if you're not in a hurry it gives you something to do. Ebay is so fun when you are looking for something specific!

I really need to learn more what die striking is...with all this VC talk going around here lately. I just never pay attention to the technical aspect of jewelry making.

Your ring looks solid to me. From a distance in macro pics, that is. ::)

In casting they pour liquid metal into a mold. In die stricking they hand carve the piece they want and then create a negative mold from the original carving -- that is the die -- and then they smoosh already formed metal between the two sides of the die under ridiculous pressure until it fills the die and is the shape they want! So in die striking the metal is much denser and has no porosity at all. So it is much much stronger. Its why you can make jewelery thinner and more delicate with die struck methods. I am pretty sure that my ring could not be made using cast methods with its proportions -- cast metal would not be strong enough in this thinness.

Hand forged metals are folded over and over and over and hammered between each fold which results in a similarly dense and air-pocket free metal that can also be used to make very thin and delicate designs that are stronger.

Thanks Dreamer, good summation, that I understood. :wavey:

This set is just amazing!! I think it's perfect.

Lovely set!

DD I saw your post about thinking maybe the band had been rhodium'd...was going to say it does have that white gold new shine to it, so that might be the case. The patina on your e-ring looks more realistic for platinum IMO. Anyway curious. And love that new band!

Tgal...one other thing about Van Craeynest is that their die struck rings are not made with the whole design done. The rings are carved, chased, engraved, and milgrained after they are made. All of those scrolls on that ring I like are hand carved on each ring. That is one reason I really want one of their rings!

Dreamer, your set looks so lovely together! Enjoy!!

Edited for spelling

Yeah, I figured those had to be hard carved!!

Dreamer, I adore those new photos! So gorgeous, and I love how the whole set looks!

Hey Dreamer, did you ever find out why the difference in color?

I also saw this tonight and thought of you. The price is not cheap, but they are taking offers, and:

- Platinum
- Your size
- 1.1 mm rise, same as your ring
- 12 diamonds (patterned along the ring, so not over the top)
- They are saying "authentic" deco, not a repro
- wheat pattern on ring

Oh, forgot to say it has an EGL card, which has the measurements and is therefore this time accurate.

tGal I love that one and actually made an offer a while ago. But the seller won't come down in price much and I am only willing to pay so much for a really mint piece, which that one isn't in my opinion :blackeye: But thanks!! You are right, it would be a very nice fit. I have seen about 3-4 others in the last couple months that would have been PERFECT in my size. So I know that if iam patient something just right will come up.

I have not seen my jeweler yet! So no idea about the color. I want to get some idea of that before I buy anything else, too.

What a bummer. Glad that at least we're on the same page on what you like, lol. I was looking tonight for fun for Yenny (I have had no reason to ebay for months now!) and ran into that one.

I'll keep looking! :wavey: And yes, I agree...patience is key. It's so easy to want it *all* right *now*.

I updated my thread about the color difference I noted between my engagement ring and my new little band. I got the band polished and it really made a huge difference, but the rings are different alloys (Plat/Irid and Plat/Cobalt most likely) so that is the reason for the underlying difference. Now that the band is polished and clean, though, the rings look very similar.

I was taking some photos of my solitaire with a new little diamond band I got so I could show Demelza, and I captured so really wild colors in my diamond. I had just cleaned the solitaire, so there was some water still on the pavilion of the stone, and combined with the bright sunny day and green grass... well the results are pretty cool.

My my my!!! Look at those green facets!!! You always have such unbelievable pictures!

Um... Love these pictures! There's a thread in CS today about green stones - your diamond should be in it!

Yummy! Your stone always looks amazing!

And please, please, can we have more pics? :cheeky:

Of course!

Here are some with my 7mm classic "old european cut". Al Gilbertson would call my 8mm a "european cut" I think. The differences are pretty obvious.

Both stones are of similar body tint I believe, somewhere in the H-I range using GIA standards. The 8mm was sold as a G but now living with her I think that is unlikely. But I think these photos show how the two stones handle light differently: I find the 8mm is a chameleon and takes on environmental colors so clearly! The larger stone is also set in a bezel mount which changes light play.

Both of your rings are spectacular! Wow, :lickout: I am drooling all over my keyboard.

Your stone is really amazing. I'm just awed. Congratulations on finding it and that perfect band to accompany it. Amazing...

Thanks mominstyle and llj's mom!

I have had my baby almost a year now and I still love her! I wear my ring every day and still get immense pleasure out of my diamond and my ring. I have not been able to say that about any other ring I owned. It is true lurve

I was thinking about you the other day! I thought it'd been nearly a year now. I'm not sure that I've ever felt that way about my rings. I have a couple that I love and would never give up, but they aren't *the ring*. You seem so happy with yours, probably leading to less time on RT lately. You're missed there.
