Thanks Diamondseeker and minousbijoux! The tension backs are very simple. You push it back and it has a groove which locks it into place. Here is another picture.

Now that you mention it, it does feel more comfortable than my traditional tension back settings. For me the size of the backings prevents drooping which would stretch my earlobe and normally make my ears red and sensitive. I def have no regrets choosing the jumbo backings !
