What do you all think about this Amethyst?

I think it's beautiful!

Cool! Square cushion?

Wow! Very unique! Deep royal purple. Love it!

Must have amethyst now..

What are your plans for it?

Its very pretty. I notice that the ammies go fast when they come up recently. So many really intense ones with"Siberian"Color. February is just around the corner....let me get through the holidays. :wink2:

Well...let's see...what do I think of a beautifully cut cushion with excellent saturation & tone to die for? YESSSSSS!!!

Probably going to be a lively stone with lots of flash!

Gary's cutting is to die for - that stone is going to be incredible IRL.

It looks gorgeous!!! Love the cut. And the color is so yummy. What are your plans for it?

Looks to be a rich royal purple - should be very lively - I do have a fondness for flashy amethysts! It would be a gorgeous ring or pendant - are you waiting to decide what to do with it until you have it in your hands?

I’ve been an everyday PS lurker for a while now, and after seeing all the candy pretties here it finally hit me. I didn’t want to start out with something expensive like Sapphire, I do love Sapphire and have a necklace with a blue Sapphire stone that was picked by my jeweler. It’s just more fun to do the search myself. My favorite color is purple, and I’ve been drooling over MiriamS’s necklace https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/custom-pendant-by-engagement-rings-direct.182007/ and cellentani’s ring https://www.pricescope.com/communit...re-new-jackets-setting-plus-eye-candy.172216/
So I decided to contact Gary to see if he has any, he didn’t have any in stock but was willing to cut a new one for me since he has some down time. Gary is awesome to work with, we exchanged about 11 emails and 3 weeks wait.

It’s in the mail and I’m expecting it today, but I’m not at home to sign for it. So I might have to pick it up from the post office tomorrow. Anticipation is killing me lol L…but I guess you all know what I’m talking about

Thanks everyone for the input!

corundum_conundrum: it’s square cushion

wordie89: I guess it’ll be my valentine/dating anniversary J

txgreeneyes, pandabee, marymm: I’ve been wanting a RHR

I wear white metal and I’m leaning toward a halo with milgrain ring. I don’t have any other ring beside my ER. So I’m still deciding how much I want to spend on the setting, I’ll probably go to my local jeweler to get some idea. But I’m welcoming your suggestion for the ring setting.

That looks really lovely! Typically I'm not into purple stones as much but that's gorgeous!

It is here...it is pretty but definitely not as deep and flashy as the photo.

Is this a keeper? Amethysts are never flashy (compared to garnets) due to their lower RI but the precision cutting makes the best of what it has to work with.

Chrono, I am still trying to see with diff lighting. I am new to color stone . Questions, when I tilted the stone I see like a window, is it because of the low RI you mentioned?

Correct - the tilt window is due to the low RI (and this is normal and fine for amethyst).

Thanks chrono! I also tried the foil technic and the stone darken a lil, since I was planning halo it. I think it will be a keeper.

I love the color! And the cut is beautiful! Congratulations.

Looks like a beauty to me. I've had to adjust to seeing a stones at their real size (as oppossed to in the macro glamour-shot). I don't know if this partially explains your initial reaction...

Are you sure you're seeing a tilt window or are you simply seeing an area without facets? Looking at the photos (none of which are exactly head on) there's no evidence of a tilt window at all.

OP - have you settled on a halo style? You could bezel the stone but I also think it would look great with double-claw prongs....

Arkteia: Thanks!

corundum_conundrum
: You're right, that does explain it.

LD:You're corrected, I'm seeing an area without facets but didn't know what to call it.

marymm: I've not settled on the halo yet; I don't know if I'm into bezel I'll have to try it out. However, I love claw prongs.

That's a nice amethyst. Congratulations! The cut makes the very best of the material -- I love its flashes of color. Whether you bezel or halo it, I think it will show up nicely. I know you said you wear white metals but imho it cries out for yellow or rose gold, nice warmth to go with the purple. I'd put it in yellow if it were mine. No matter, you'll love wearing it whatever you do.

I agree with JF that rose and yellow gold really enhances and brings out a richer and deeper purple in amethyst.

I actually like your photos better than the vendors! The stone looks brighter in person, which is always good, at least IMHO. Can't wait to see it set!

I agree with Jereni, I like it better in your pictures! Especially the second one you posted.

Thanks everyone!
The stone looks awesome directly under the office light which is in the second photo (bright at the jeweler lighting).

Do you have any yellow or rose gold halo or bezel setting that you could share with me?
