Gene just posted this today and so I jumped on it before someone else here did :naughty:

I think it would make a good pendant, what do you guys think?

It's heated, so it doesn't have as much as a tri-color effect as I'd like but it was in my price range and the cut is really nice and different. Plus, I really just needed to buy one of Gene's stones to get it out of my system. Visiting his website and not buying anything is very hard.
 
The cut is spectacular!! Definitely can see it as a pendant!
 
That's a really cool cut! I like trillions in pendants with one point facing down and the attachments to the chain on the other 2 points. Kind of like this, but obviously in place of the gold triangle, it's your stone:

That's a really cool idea! I had never thought to put it with the point facing down. Where would I find a setting like that?

Absolutely mega cool tanzanite! If you want to keep it simple utilizing a plain basket setting, just have the bale moved to the opposite side of the basket to have the pendant pointing downwards.
 
I think it is a beautiful stone and fascinating cut! I was going to reply earlier, as I was looking for a picture of Liz Taylor in which she is wearing a triangular pendant-- I think hers was more of an elongated shape but it would work either way. It was very simple, just a basic basket if I remember correctly. Hers was hanging by one point, the other two were perpendicular at the bottom..

You can't go wrong with a Gene stone, cutting wise, and the color on that one looks gorgeous!
 
I'm so glad everyone here likes it! I'm going to wait until I have the stone to decide which orientation I like but I'm positive I want to keep it simple and just have the stone alone. Can't wait to have it. I promise to post good pictures this time, I'll leave the microscope out ;)

Actually, I don't mind the microscope at all. Inclusions are very fascinating even if I don't fully understand what I am seeing.
 
Well in that case, I'll certainly take some microscope pictures for you! Gene said he would send the stone out tomorrow so I should have it sometime after Thanksgiving.

Woah! Very cool looking stone. I would totally do a pendant. Pointy part up, flat part at the bottom like a pyramid.

Congratulations on your beautiful tanzanite! It is indeed an unusual cut - almost futuristic, but I really like it! I hope you will share some photos once it's set. :)

One thing - it doesn't matter if it's heated or not. It's "normal" for Tanzanite to be heated. Although I know some people like to make a distinction between heated/unheated in Tanzanites, I do not believe it makes much of a difference.

Love the pendant idea -it's going to be simply stunning as you can rest assured that Gene's photos will show you exactly what you're going to get. His are the most realistic photos and his cutting is awesome.

LD - I read somewhere (I think Gene's site) that the unheated tanzanites are more likely to have the pretty tri-color or blue, green and purple. I thought that was more desirable than the color of heated stones but maybe neither is more desirable and it's just an observation. Either way, thanks for the info :D

I have yet to see a real difference between a great unheated and a great heated and I think that most collectors would struggle to see the difference. Certainly there isn't a price difference. Interestingly some of the unheated Tanzanites command less per carat than the heated ones! What I would say is that yours is spectacular and you should be absolutely proud of such a stunning gem.
 
Lovely!! I also think that would look really nice as a pendant.

I have one of Gene's unheated tanzanites, and it is a VERY similar colour, and I can't see any tri-colour effect, FWIW. I look forward to seeing your own pics and hearing your thoughts when you get it. Congrats on a very nice buy!
 
I came home from NY today and this was waiting for me in my mailbox :D I'll take the microscope pics next time I'm at work but for now, this will do. I love this stone!! I can't wait to make it into a pendant!

This little guy changes color a lot but it's always sparkly and always a pretty color. Absolutely eye clean and maybe even flawless. The cut is spectacular, of course. Definitely a keeper.

Beautiful piece! Tanzanite tend to look shifty due to its pleochroism so that sounds normal. I can't wait for more picture and follow your setting project.
 
That's even prettier than Gene's pic. It looks so saturated and I'm a sucker for that deep violetish blue :love:

I agree with JustGinger; for a first precision cut stone, that's a pretty sophisticated cut.

Really lovely. You're likely to see it shift from blue to purple and everything in between (perhaps some pink flashes) - that's normal for a great pleochroic tanzanite. Eye clean is also the norm.

The icing on the cake with this one is shape and cut. It's gorgeous! Can't wait to see the final piece of jewellery.

The stone is at the jeweler now, getting set a similar setting to the one I attached except it has a prettier bail, not an ugly hoop. I wanted this setting because I didn't want to hide the points of the stone. They are sharp and perfect so I wanted to show them off.

I decided on silver because I have a feeling she is going to be wearing it a lot and I wasn't sure how well WG would hold up. She's a ballerina so there's a lot of jumping/sweating, not sure how long the WG would tolerate it. Besides, I'm not a huge fan of WG, especially 10k and 14k. So since I wanted the look of silver I went with silver. It would be silly to set a $150 stone in platinum :D

The jeweler and salesperson were very impressed with the cut. The jeweler was an older gentleman and he said he had never seen a stone cut like this before.

I'm not sure when it will be done, but I told them before Xmas so I could give it to her as a present. I'll make sure to take lots pictures when it returns :D
