Hello everyone!

I'm a long-time lurker but I'm crawling out of the darkness to share my new pretty with you. I've been shopping for a sapphire for a few months but I was having a hard time taking the plunge on anything too expensive. I'm not too much of a risk taker so I started with a modest stone from Dana Reynolds. Here's the stone:

Madagascar Sapphire, 1.305 carat, 7.3 x 6.1 x 4.2mm

This picture was taken indoors, near a lamp.

Since I'm in NYC, I went over to IDJ yesterday to get it set. I had never been there before but everyone was very sweet and Jade helped me choose a setting. She has a great eye so even though I saw a bunch of rings, I went with her first choice and got ready to pick up my cute new ring the next day. I wasn't really ready for this:

I had no idea it was going to turn out this gorgeous. I was walking down the street and had to stop to take these pics. The ring is 18k rhodium plated white gold with 2 heart shaped side stones. It was a cloudy, overcast day but for some reason, that really brought out the color of the stone. The little diamonds were showing off too.

Indoors the color is a little more subdued. More like a quieter grayish blue but the shine of the metal under the stone helps keep it sparkly. Here's a pic I took at work (when I should have been working on some reports lol):

This isn't at all what I had in mind when I first started out but I love it so much. I hope you guys can forgive my newbie rapture over something that's probably really ordinary for you but I'm thrilled to bits.

Thanks so much to Dana and the lovely people at IDJ!!!

That is beauuuuutiful! Sapphires are such changeable stones in different lighting, they're really cool.

I'll confess that I was eyeing that sapphire (I may have ended up buying it if you hadn't snapped it up) -- but I'm glad it went to a PSer and I am loving the pics! I'd love to see more!

I love your ring and think the sapphire is interesting and beautiful. My first sapphire purchase was a beautiful vibrant blue........at least half of it. The other half was sooooooo dark. lol I think you are ahead of the game for your first sapphire purchase. You have a very nice, precision cut sapphire that looks to be quite lively, and pretty.

It looks beautiful. Congratulations!

What a stunner! The setting and the two diamonds really make that sapphire color pop!

Gorgeous!!!

A coloured stone is always enhanced by diamond accents. Cute hearts. :))

deorwine: thanks for the compliments. my pics were huuuuge lol! i had to resize them but i'll try to post a bigger one later. there's a teal one still up for grabs *nudge nudge*

LisaRN: ooh a black and blue sapphire. does that count as bicolor
but, hey, i have a learning stone too. actually "stone" might not be the best word, since i think it started out as a beer bottle.

pregcurious, txgreeneyes: Thanks so much for the compliments

Chrono: I'll keep that in mind for my next project. Flying by the seat of one's pants near diamonds isn't the best thing for one's budget.

You know whats not ordinary at all and never gets old? When people like you come here to show off what they truly love! I like the proportions of the ring very much and think you chose well for the diamond sides.

Beautiful!

Wow, your ring is gorgeous! I love the diamond heart side stones. Congrats!!

I love your ring, it looks gorgeous!

Gosh that color is so wonderful. Truly gorgeous. :praise:

What a beautiful ring!

Very pretty and I love the fact that it has multiple personalities. Just one tip - don't wear it when you drive because the number of times I've been admiring my ring when I should have had my eye on the road, well ................ !

I'm back to say that it looks absolutely perfect on your hand. You really chose well to make it fit. Good coverage and size. I know what I like in stones, but its a whole other skill set to end up with a ring that works for you. You have accomplished that in spades. Well done!

Rosebloom, laila, lknvrb4, kaydizzle, and catmom: Thank you so much for the kind words and lovely compliments ((group hug))

LD: I exercised some self-restraint and didn't wear it today. I had some work to finish up and I didn't want to sit there all day, staring at my ring like a goober.

Minou: Thank you so much for understanding my goofy gem-struckedness. The credit for choosing the right setting goes to Jade at IDJ. I would never have considered heart shaped sides but she clearly knows what works. She's like the ring whisperer or something.

I promised someone a bigger pic so I hope this works. The fluorescent lights at a local takeout place were making the stone go green. I don't remember whether or not I used a flash here.

Excellent suggestion!

I love the grayish tones to your sapphire, it looks lovely in the setting you chose and on your finger! Well done!

AWESOME....LOVE YOUR RING!

Lori

Oh wow... That is a really beautiful sapphire and it looks amazing in that setting (and on your finger). I love that blue color so much... I like that blue more than the blue a sapphire is "supposed" to be.
Thank you for sharing!

Oh hey, I requested the larger pic and then I forgot to comment on it! Silly me! Anyway... love it, thank you so much for the new picture! It's very interesting to me what sapphires do in fluorescent lighting particularly... sometimes it can be a whole new color, almost :)
