I was given my Great Grandmother''s engagement ring. It''s less then .25ct for the center stone with two little sides. It has a squarish setting, but is a round stone. The cut seems funny, but maybe that''s because it''s so old?

Kind of see the stone shape in this one.

Beautiful ring! It''s hard to tell from the photos, but the cut might be an antique cut.

maybe an expert can chime in on what type of stone that is. I can see that the table size is really small which goes with older cut stones. Does it have a lot of fire?

Lovely ring!

That is a really pretty ring and something special that you can treasure!

Looks like an old mine cut diamond.

I''ll have to do some research on antique diamonds and see what I can find out. It is a very strange shape but it’s also so small, I need to get a better look at it under magnification.

My grandmother died when I was very young and her mom had passed before I was ever born so unfortunately they aren''t around to ask many details. I know my great grandmother was an immigrant from Sweden, but whether the ring came from there or after she was in the US I do not know for sure.

Yes it is definitely something I will treasure :)

What a treasure! Do you have any head on pictures?

The flash was making the center look blurred, so I didn''t post any. I''ll see if I can get a better head on pic tonight. :)

I found this link from google. http://www.topazery.com/antique-diamonds.htm

Out of the options from the link above, I''d pick Old European as the cut... although I really need some magnification to be able to tell for sure.

very pretty!

It looks like the crown is very high. Maybe an OMC?

Very pretty setting.

Do you have any pictures of her? It would be neat to take a shot of the ring with the original owner...

~~It looks really pretty, but I can''t really see it that well...

I called mom to ask about her family and E-rings...my mom and her sisters were the first generation she knows of to get them. She has her Great Grandmother''s yellow gold cigar band ring, her sister has their grandmother''s rose and yellow gold ring, I have their mother''s ring, a thin white gold band with Native American-looking suns on it..
I am curious as to the age of the ring, I love older things..

Awwww, what a sweet and beautiful ring! Looks to have a high crown (?) and small table.

What a treasure!

I was fortunate to receive my own Grandmother''s e-ring still in it''s original box from the year 1919. Box is or was ( it''s very worn) purple velvet and the satin interior kind of tattered but I love it so as it''s perfect with the ring snuggled inside.

What a pretty ring...I love antique jewelry that holds sentimental value.
