Hi everyone,
I am new here but my boyfriend and I read lots of posts and looking at pictures of all your beautiful rings. I don''t have an e-ring to post(yet anyway
emsmile.gif
) But, I would like to show you my ring handed down from my great great grandmother to my Great aunt to me. It has a long history including being lost in a driveway in the 30''s for 2 years later to be found and lost again by yours truly for 1 year. The refound ring now more than ever is so special to me and I can''t wait to pass it on to my kids. Enough of the sappy stuff.
Specs: No clue thought some of you could help.
A jeweler told me it was white gold(but diff. than the kind used today???)
The center stone is approx .40
It is an older type cut where they cut right across the bottom of the diamond.
The same is true for all the side diamonds as well.

Sorry for my ignorance, I am new to the diamond world and am trying to educate myself.
The pics were taken indoors and the lighting doesn''t really do stone justice it is actually near colorless.
Thanks for looking.

OK, I will post pics. as soon as I figure out how- sorry

That does sound like a very special ring, can''t wait to see pictures. Try to rename the file and make sure it''s small enough and in jpg format. It should work.

Thanks, I will try again. I am attaching the new file. If this doesn''t work. I give up.

The "diamond cut across" description reminds me of a large open culet - something an "old mne" cut diamonds might have. Like THIS ONE.

The age of the ring is consistent with the type of cut as well, although your stone might be more roudish than that example above ( a later version).

This ring below seems very close to your pictures. The diamond is "old European cut":

beautiful... i have a special place in my heart for those old, sentimental pieces!

Wow! that is a very beautiful ring! I love the look of antique and vintage jewelry. I have my grandmother''s mounting from her ering. It''s very dainty and vintage looking, too. She had the diamond taken out and remounted years ago, and my sister has that ring. I have some extra loose diamonds that are about .25 carats each. I''m thinking about having one of those set into grandma''s ring and wearing it as a pinky ring. I think that your great granny''s ring would make a gorgeous pinky ring, too. Have you considered that?

valeria101 The diamond being cut across the bottom made me think it may be a rosecut.

I LOVE IT! What a beautiful ring!

I just love the antique ones, they have so much detail that you know had to be hand-made... no machines back then! And even more fun that it comes from your family. Thanks for the pictures, post more any time!

Your ring is beautiful! I love the style of the setting.

Now don''t lose it!

Totally my style.

valeria101....where did you get that picture? It''s something I would want as an engagement ring.

it''s lovely, and the story behind it is great!

what a special piece incognito! it''s so wonderful to have an heirloom in the family to continue to pass down. yours reminds me of mine from my great grandma, except mine is vertical set not horizontal...so cool!

Oh, that''s gorgeous!!! You''re so lucky!

That''s it Valeria101.. the mine cut, I had forgotten the name. The example you posted looks so similar. Thanks everyone for your woderful comments. The ring does have lots of history. You can even see where it was fixed after a buggy ran over it in the drive way. Its funny, I lost the ring and then it reappeared again when I found the right guy. Who knows, grannie''s ring may have a bit of cupid in it.

Thanks again for the comments and education. I am really glad I posted it.

incognito,

i want to start by saying that i absolutely love that ring. my future fiance has one exactly like it ;) although i really like the vintage style ring, i was wondering what you thought of the jaffe asscher cut with the pave band.
