This is a very small 0.8ct, pigeon blood red unheated ruby I just got. It has cutting nicks at pavilion which I didn't know :errrr:
But the color is very pleasing.
Here it goes.
Cloudy day, indoor, no flashing or any assisting lights.

Even though it has cutting nicks on the back, but I'm afraid I won't be able to afford an unheated 1.5-2ct perfect pigeon blood without inclusion or crack. This maybe the only little pigeon I will ever have....So I decide to keep it.

Since it is very small, I was thinking maybe double halo?

A few settings I am considering

Very pretty! I vote for the second setting, I almost purchased that one for one of my ovals!

2nd and last one are my favourites.

I prefer the last 2 you posted - I like the white and red contrast the best in those 2 options.

Beautiful stone!!!!

Very pretty I really like the 3rd and 5th setting!

Thanks for your suggestion.
I realy like the last one, but I think I made that ruby bigger proportionally. Actual stone maybe smaller than that.

Thanks, it is pretty. Just a little small ;))
I like the 5th too.

I have narrowed it down to No2. and No.5

The stone may looks bigger in No.2?

Rats! I liked #1 best. 8)
But between 2 & 5 I like 5.
Best wishes on whatever you choose - its beautiful!

What do you mean by "cutting nicks"? I'm sure it's not accidental damage by the lapidary.

Thanks so much for your input. Sorry that No.1 is out of the game

So sorry about the damage but at least it cannot be seen face up, right?

The visual perspective of 2 and 5 are different. One is E/W which is fine for those with short fingers and the other is N/S which is great for those with long fingers. It all depends on your hand / finger type. I am drawn to #5 because it is different and the design gives both height and width coverage.

It cannot been seen face up. Thanks for bring the finger type into consideration. Never thought that might be an issue.
I have normal length, but thin finger. Looks like No.5 is the best choice

I think your ruby looks great. And I like setting 5. I also wanted to say that .8 in the right setting won't look super small. Or at least I don't think so since I just got a .6 halo with 4pt diamonds. Here it is on my hand. Just to give you an idea to not under estimate your .8 ruby oval. Congrats on finding your stone :-)

This is gorgeous!!!And it doesn't look like 0.6ct.
Your ring is very classic, where did you get the setting done?

OTL after a lot of searching including looking at loose stones I got the whole ring from a B and M (boone and sons in DC) it was made by somerset a house in NYC. I am lucky I have very small fingers but they are long so they don't look it. The ring is a size 4 1/4. I mainly posted it so that she could see that a .8 in a good setting could wear much larger esp with an oval.
