My new Aquamarine necklace-what are the chances this is real?

That color certainly could be aquamarine. Actually it's a very common color for aquamarine. Most aqua does have green in it, but is commonly heated to burn off the green.

Well I’m a little confused. Amethyst, right? I guess the Presidium tester isn’t that useful in this case...

No one can tell by a picture, especially with stones non-descript as Aqua and Prasiolite.

Aqua is a very cheap stone until you get into very blue quality. It could be either one.

The neckless was probably mass produced with thousands of carats used. When you buy that much of any commercial quality stone you are paying pennies on the dollar on the carat.

Much of this is made in India. Very cheaply. Not saying it is not pretty, but the cost is very low to manufacture.

Maybe you could return this tester and buy a Refractometer, which would separate quartz from aquamarine. There is a reason that professionals don't use Presidium testers.

At this point I’m just curious which gem it is. I still love the necklace. I guess I’m just a sucker for riviera necklaces.
