My once-yearly contemplation on upgrading begins. Thoughts on this WF expert selection?

Hello friends! Its about once a year I start thinking about upgrading from my 1.0 ct amora gem to the real deal diamond, so here I am again lol. I bit the bullet and purchased gorgeous ACA studs this year so I'm back on the website just seeing the best bang for my buck. Want to keep the stone under $15,000. I reached out to my contact at WF and she said this stone isn't ACA because it falls outside the parameters for hearts patterning. Still an AGS0 and eligible for their upgrade program.

Plan to put in a white gold cathedral setting. Ring size 5.

Thoughts on this stone? Do Expert selections resell like the ACAs should need arise?

It's beautiful! Are you sure it's eye-clean to your standards? If not, here's another one to consider.

Need to confirm on eye clean, good question. I worry about the J color of that one. Maybe it would be good to have her pull them both and do a side by side. I'm also willing to go as low as 1.5 ct.

Yes, definitely ask for a side-by-side. Here are a couple others.

Thank you! These are all great to see for a side by side.

I'm curious too how people feel about WF settings? It sucks I keep being attracted to some of the Vatch but they are so $$ compared to other brands. I like just a simple solitaire, maybe a cathedral. Feels like slim pickings.

Did you check out their Valoria setting? Not a cathedral but several have been very happy with it.

That one actually caught my eye. Worried how my shared prong eternity band would sit.

I have the petite valoria in platinum. I really like it! The prongs hug the diamond so well. It feels sturdy yet dainty…. There is a very small donut, barely, so I don’t know about your eternity. I have an eternity with .08 pt stones I’ve worn with mine. I find the height is higher off the finger than the valoria so probably not my favorite band, but when I’m feeling blingy I do it anyway! I purchased it as a temporary setting and yet I’m really feeling happy with it. I also have a plain wedding band and that is what I wear most days.

Do you have a picture of your eternity band with it? If it’s not too much trouble :-)

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed when I saw how the two fit together. I have been wearing the eternity on my right hand. When I do have a new setting made I will probably have a wedding band made as well so it is seemless.

The pictures are really very helpful thank you!

I think we have seen over and over again that a shared prong wedding band, which by its very nature has exposed diamond girdles, will eventually eat into the engagement ring setting. It is a beautiful look that many would like to have but in reality is just not practical. I think there have been a couple of posters that have had an engagement ring and wedding band made specifically so there would be very little contact but it means having the diamond set up higher so that at least the chewing into the engagement ring would not be at the prong level - if that makes sense - so that prongs would not be compromised and a diamond lost. A spacer is really the only reasonable way to prevent this from happening.

You know I really wish I had read about that before purchasing mine two years ago. My current setting, there is very very little contact. WF did offer to have me send my eternity band to them so they could try and find/make a setting that won't contact much, like you're saying. I may end up having to do that. I appreciate your response!B420ADDC-7ACD-4F8E-A3EB-40EA21371553.jpeg

Sorry double reply. I do have a few pics saved of some stacked rings I thought looked pretty nice. I just don’t have a lot of space on my stubby finger im not sure how it would look or feel. The First pic was an inspiration pic and the second is one I actually tried on with my set1B8E5EB8-F0FA-427D-9807-072D56B3111C.png00EBB99F-93A3-4979-98B7-3BA7D20E4300.jpeg

As an owner of a lovely ‘chainsaw’ eternity ring that damaged my ER beyond repair, I have to say a spacer is the way to go. I found a simple one at Tiffany that fit the bill, but even a thin (barely noticeable) gold band would have saved my ER setting. Given that WF has offered to find a solution, maybe consider that, too? I’d imagine they know the rings and how to solve the problem better than most…. Your set is lovely!

Was your engagement ring a 6 prong? I’m curious if it’s only an issue with 6 prongs. And I appreciate your input. I did a board search and I recall seeing people feel as though the small spacer didn’t full prevent the rubbing but it sounds like it worked for you!

It was a 4 prong. Platinum head…. There was barely enough to keep it standing tall when the damage was discovered. It’s a miracle the head - and stone - didn’t fly off and disappear forever!

I think the success of the spacer is dependent on where it sits in relation to the two rings and how wide it needs to be to avoid contact. So that meant I had to try on rings - in the correct sizes - to determine what would work.3E710826-BCEF-488A-AE22-32674589A2C9.jpeg3E710826-BCEF-488A-AE22-32674589A2C9.jpeg

Maybe its just unavoidable and I should look at this as an opportunity to accessorize my stack further lol. I love the look of your picture. I guess I'm just worried about my stubby fingers BUT my currently e-ring setting it quite thick, I think if I get a new stone and a new setting that will free up some ring finger real estate.

Yes it is! I love it...it's very lightweight but substantial at the same time if that makes sense. Super comfy...

It does make sense. I really like it, just would need a spacer. Which maybe I would with any setting to keep it safe...

It is such a shame that those two rings that look SO good together are so incompatible! If WF is willing to take a look at your two rings together, maybe they could come up with something. I love their willingness to go the extra mile. Perhaps even a beefed up donut at the base of the prongs would at least help to keep the band from sawing into the prongs. A spacer, appropriately placed, would probably be the best bet. I too don’t have long fingers for stacking but I do think I could fit in a thin spacer. I have a channel set band which doesn’t cause an issue and I think a bead set band could work too. I have a five stone shared prong band as a right hand ring so I tell myself to be satisfied with that and just keep the channel set band. It works and looks good so I don’t rock the boat but the look of a solitaire and shared prong band is scrumptious! Good luck and keep us posted!!

I agree I thought that was really kind of them to offer! It is such a delicious look, I had no idea at the time it could be an issue, but it doesn't currently touch the setting I have so maybe thats why it didn't come up when I purchased it from my BM jeweler. Thanks for the input and I'll keep ya'll posted I'm sure it'll take me forever to just pick a darn stone still..

Hey Kim what do you think of this one?
I had Liza email me some pics, it looks like the hearts and arrows are cut off kind of funny in the email pics. I’m hoping from the side an I color diamond won’t appear too tinted or yellow. I’m not an icy white lover either. The 1.7 ct stone wasn’t quite eye clean so she’s out and Liza said the H actually has a brown tint from the side. 57170226-20E3-4A0E-AC31-17A20FCC302A.jpg

If I wear it solo and it's cooler out, it will. I bought some ring snuggies off of Amazon to use in case I want to wear it alone because sometimes I just adore letting this setting shine! Can't wait to see what you end up with...enjoy the process!!
