Tomorrow is our 25th anniversary and I wanted to make a pink diamond ring for this special day. I started the project early this year and quickly running out of time. After an unsatisfactory experience of ordering the pink diamond on line, I decided to go with a local jeweler two weeks ago. We found a stone with the following specification:
Color: Fancy purplish pink
Carat weight: 1.08 ct
Fluorescence: none
Table: 60%
Depth: 63%
Clarity: I1
The stone is relatively clean with no inclusions visible at the table. The only flaw is one large feather that runs from the edge of the table all the way to the girdle. It does not break the surface and since it lines up with the facet, it is not noticeable. We took it to an appraiser to confirm the feather would not impose a durability problem. We preferred to have a cleaner stone but based on the limited inventory at the local dealers and the time constraint, we picked the best at hand.
The good news is the ring is complete and I picked it up today. The bad news is we got an emergency call during the weekend. My father in law is suddenly ill and he has to undergo a major surgery tomorrow to remove a cancerous tumor in his intestine. My husband had to fly home last Saturday to be with the family. I can''t go due to my own medical problems. So the ring is done on time but he is not here. This is the 1st anniversary that we will be apart
. After I put all the recent events into perspective, the intended meaning of the ring is somehow diminished.
Anyhow, here is the picture of the ring.
