As requested, here is my new dragonfly brooch, after much debate about which forum a gold piece with pearls, diamonds and sapphires goes! (I thought the Jewelry Pieces would be the obvious place but no pearls allowed there.)

It's 14k gold filigree, with diamond-tipped wings and akoya body pearls. The diamonds are really sparkly but I just couldn't capture it with the camera. The pearls are pristine, with no marks at all and are very lustrous with a pink overtone. The eyes are sapphire. The camera makes it look like one is darker than the other but it's just the light.

Enjoy my latest treasure from the hallowed halls of E.B. Horn of Boston!

And lastly...My eyes are watching YOU!

It's really pretty! I can see what attracted you to it! How are you planning on wearing it (i.e. on a coat, to fasten a scarf, on a sweater, etc.)?

Thanks! The wings are really sparkly and their tips catch the light. I can't seem to capture that on camera.

I will wear it on black, close-fitting dresses or tops. I wouldn't wear it on a coat or scarf because it's too valuable. You fling your coat on a chair, or leave your scarf in a restaurant...etc.

I've loved it from afar for a while and I'm so pleased I got it. E.B. Horn is a treasure trove - I got my solid gold rose brooch with the diamonds on the leaves from there too. They also have a small circle of pearls brooch with a baguette-cut sapphire at the top of the circle which I might get.

I need to check this place out, I'm only an hour and 45 minutes away, although it might be a slippery slope!

Beautiful!!! I can see why you love it, a very unique and lovely design! I love those diamond-tipped wings!

It's gorgeous.

That's pretty.

It's lovely! Enjoy your opportunities to wear it!

How beautiful!

Very pretty, Smith! :appl:

Pretty indeed! Love the very whimsical beauty.

Thanks, everyone! There's actually another one the same available on Etsy at the moment for $100 less. But I decided I'm not going to return this and get the cheaper one. It's important to support local businesses like E.B. Horn, which has been around since 1880 or so and has a helluva stock. The Etsy seller basically has no overheads, so it's not really a fair competition.

Very cute!

I adore this brooch!

I'd definitely recommend it, Allisonia! Most of their stuff is in drawers though, so you have to ask to see things. I've always got the best prices from Irene.

Thanks Stci! I just found another good close-up of it that I forgot to upload:

Thanks, DeeJay! I do love E.B. Horn and although it can be a bit rough in there - very busy and just so many salespeople, some of whom really need to go to charm school - I have had some amazing prices and some fantastic service. I needed some new 14k earring backs recently, and they knocked a large amount off the total for me. It's also a Boston institution. I think every wealthy old lady in Boston must consign her goods there because they have collections of brooches and other antique jewellery like you've never seen. Great sprays of diamond flowers with step-cuts starting at 20k, diamond bows, gold and diamond animal brooches - the lot. And the best bargain I've ever got there was a pristine-condition preowned Tiffany Etoile diamond ring for $650 instead of $2.5k!

So no, I'm not going to screw them out of the brooch sale for the sake of $100. When it comes to local business, use it or lose it!

          I NEED something like this!

I think you do, too! A dragonfly for a dragonfly.

Call me an enabler, but here are two possibilities: :Up_to_something:

This is the one like mine on Etsy....only $225.....

and this, which I actually think is a very reasonable price for a Tiffany platinum and diamond substantial piece:

They also have a large version for $9200, if you're feeling "in the money"!

Smith1942- I adore your brooch, so charming and whimsical! Sounds like I would love a trip to EB Horn! If I'm ever in Boston it's on my list.

I have to applaud both of you for the shout out for local small business. As a small retail store owner it burns me up to educate a customer on a product and loose their business to a big box store or internet seller. I love working for free and giving free advice, sarcasm intended.

I buy a fair amount at local small business' and go out of my way to do so. Use it or Lose it is so true!
