I love sapphires and my daughter loves purple, so I decided to get a purple sapphire ring. I searched for months for the right stone. I found that other people have very different ideas on what purple is. Most were more lilac/lavender coloured, with a grey or blue tone, whereas I was looking for a rich purple with red tones. CecileRaley Designs has a lovely one but it's too expensive. I contacted Jeff Davies and JuliaB. Jeff had none and Julia's didn't grab me enough.

I saw this purple sapphire on loupetroop and just kept going back to it. The colour is amazing. It's not very big, but my ring fingers are only 3.5 US or 4.75 so I don't need it to be. I don't mind heated stones but it's a bonus that it's untreated.

Since I've read good things about Caysie I decided to get her to make the ring as well. It's going to be the Anne style halo with no stones on the shoulders, in 14k rose gold.

She just sent me the CAD design of a size 3.5 and 4.75 ring. I wanted to see if it would look more substantial on a smaller finger. I was surprised that it doesn't look much different.Image.jpeg

Which size do you guys think? It's not going to replace my wedding ring set so it would have to be a right hand ring. My concern is that 3.5 is such a small size it would not be easy to resize if I wanted to sell it or pass it on.

I personally like the slight asymmetry of when right hand rings are worn on the middle finger rather than the ring finger, plus, as you said, 4.75 is easier to pass on.

As for the stone itself, congrats the colour is beautiful! Do mind me asking what you paid? No obligation to share. Looptroop is just showing $1, which I'm guessing was the starting price.4

The deep purple will look amazing against rose gold. What are you planning for the accent stones?

I don't mind. I think it was $700 or $750. I can't remember because I'm paying for the total cost of the ring. The stone was discounted because I'm buying a setting too.

I forgot to mention the accent stones. They will be diamonds.

Lovely! Though the CAD doesn't look much different, I find rings look substantially different on ring finger vs middle (meaning, the same ring switched from one to the other). If you can't decide, maybe go bigger, and then use a silicone wrap when you want to wear it on your smaller finger?

Your purple sapphire is beautiful. The color is amazing, and the shape & cut seem to keep it bright.

I love this! The stone is stunning & very much like my amethyst, with red flashes.

I think going slightly bigger with sizing beads maybe the way forward.

I love that you're going with a rosy gold too. Daniel M set mine in 18ct yellow gold, with a very slight rose tint. It's a very regal look!

Thanks! @Alex T amethyst purple is exactly what I was looking for, but in a sapphire. It was not an easy search!

@MissSarah I've never tried silicone wraps before but it sounds like a great idea. I can also use them for my existing rings that are a little too loose.

Oh this will be such a stunning ring. I can’t wait to see it!

I wear a 4.5 ring. It’s a mixed blessing lol

This is exciting. I almost bought that purple sapphire too because it’s the perfect shade of purple (at least for me). I held off because I already had a project in the works and I couldn‘t do both. Now, I get the joy of seeing you bring it to life in a gorgeous setting.

If you plan to sell it down the line, I think that 4.75 would be a better choice. However, you should buy it based on the finger you want to wear it on...not on potential resale. If you like the way rings look on the smaller finger more, go with that one. You could ask Caysie how far up this could be resized and just keep that info for later, if you ever decide to sell.

Stunning! Looking forward to see the outcome

I've let Caysie know that I want it in 4.75. I wish I was a more common size, like 5, to facilitate buying more rings. Or maybe not...

It's been a while but I received photos of the finished ring today! My first reaction was "WOW" when I saw them. It's so vibrant it almost looks like CGI. I can't wait to receive it.
