#JOTW My sleek and simple solitaire by OWD/Mark T

Beautiful and scrumptious- you chose an amaaaazing diamond and setting! May it bring you pleasure always and wear in health and happiness! Oh- love the band as well- the ensemble is perfection. That setting- it is as you describe, the fluidity is striking... and the diamond- just, wow. I don't know, I can't help but ask... I'd love to see a video of this diamond in sparkly action. The way you describe her is just so intriguing, and, I love the pics, just wondering. In any case, enjoy- just beautiful.

It is absolutely stunning!!!!

Awesome stone and love that delicate setting....excellent choices. So interesting how the other stone's ASET was better but you both picked the L, once again proving you have to see the stone. Great that Adam sent 2 stones for comparison. Kudos to him.

Love the pic's can't get enough of those OEC's.

So lovely!!!

Kristy!! So glad to see you - it's a gorgeous stone! Ring's nice too, you've always had wonderful taste :)

LOVE the setting. Love. :appl:

So very beautiful!!! Love that skinny shank. You can barely see it! It's almost floating on your finger. :appl: :appl:

Beautiful!

Gorgeous!

The gallery is amazing. I love how it cradles the stone so perfectly. Wow!!

Love the fluid lines of the ring. It's amazing :appl:

LOVE this! Sometimes I just browse OWD for fun, they have amazing inventory. Congratulations on your amazing ring!

Beautiful, love the setting.

Your diamond is amazing and your ring looks great. All of your rings look fabulous together.

I clearly missed this when it was originally posted, KD! Good to see you here with another beautiful addition to your collection! You made a great choice with an OEC this time!

Wow!!! Congrats!!! Enjoy!!

KD, your new oec is absolutely stunning! When you originally said you were looking for a 2.25-3ct, I had a feeling it would be closer to a 3! The setting is so delicate and simple from the top but yet there's so much detail from the side! I especially love the pairing with the pave band! This is your first 6 prong setting no? More pictures please

Your stone has a ton of personality and looks regal in its mounting. I love that you followed your instincts and went with what was pleasing to you. Great post, and one that can be useful to others on the hunt for their dream old cut stone.

As an aside, can you share more about the width of the shank. I've been wearing a knife edge for the first time and find it incredibly uncomfortable for everyday wear. I wonder whether thinning it out would make it substantially better. How is the wearability and did you get any push back from your vendor?

Congratulations!

Hi RandG! Sorry it took me so long to respond to you -- I'm hoping you'll see this! Regarding the shank width, I had asked Mark for "as thin as possible on either side of the head," and he said he couldn't go any thinner than 1.8mm because he didn't want to risk the structural integrity, but when I received the ring, he described the shank width as 1.4mm at the thinnest part (next to the head), so I guess they thought going thinner was possible/safe after all.

As for wearability, I don't even notice the ring at all, it is THAT comfortable. It might be that the shape of my finger lends itself well to the knife-edge because my fingers are narrowish at the base. If yours is uncomfortable, I would imagine that narrowing the width but also reducing the height of the shank (rise off your finger) might make it more comfortable. Not sure if this helps? Comfort is so important.

Hello,
Your ring is gorgeous! Mark did a great job with this one!
I would love to see your cushion halo that mark did for you as I am speaking with him about my setting ideas for my cushion.
Can you share a pic of your cushion ring from Mark? Thanks so much and enjoy your new gorgeous ring!

Thanks, Madison! I'm late to respond to you and I'm very sorry about that. In case you're still interested, here's a link to the cushion halo Mark made for me a couple years ago: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/3-14ct-omb-in-hand-forged-halo-setting-by-mark-at-erd.174860/

Exactly. I've learned that evaluating an old cut is more like an art, and less like a science. It's so subjective and personal!

Kristy your diamond is just breathtaking and the wedding set is so elegant! Nicely done.

Hi KristyDarling! I know I already drooled over your GORGEOUS GORGEOUS GORGEOUS ring but so happy to see this thread up at the top again. I LOVE your ring.   Everything about it. Everything.

So glad you are enjoying it!

Your new ring is amazing! I love your setting, especially how thin it is...so graceful! Are those claw prongs I see?

Sundial, Missy, PattyCo -- Thank you!!! 8) And yes, PattyCo -- they are indeed claw prongs. ::)

I'm really glad Mark was able to get the shank as thin as it is because there isn't much real estate on my finger. The thinner the shank, the less stubby my finger looks! I've discovered I can't stack more than 2 bands with this ring (or any ring!), due to lack of finger real estate. :(( Right now I'm stacking it with my knife-edge Tiffany band and a new french cut eternity band by David Klass (Christmas gift!). It's tight, but do-able. I'll try to get pics of my new stack combo up here soon!

It looks huge on your hand. I love it!

It's really beautiful! Wear it in health!

Kristy, more people have got to see this ring. This oec in this solitaire setting is absolutely fabulous!! :appl:  :appl:  :appl:

I just saw this after all this time- Mrs. Blop had a thread and this one was linked- wowee! The video is great, your diamond looks so amazing and full of life. What a great ring, are you still just wowed? I loved how this was just 'you' and your descriptions of how alive the setting is- that is perfect for the stone, and the photos really do show viney, twisty feel that suggests movement at any angle. Very edgy and cool.

This is scrumptious! I really love the stone and the setting. :D

I love the work by Mark T, it's beautiful! One question for you, are the prongs "catchy"? Do you find yourself picking strings and hairs out of them?

I know this is an oldish thread but Kristie, I was wondering if you miss wearing a RB, do you prefer the ORB or the Antique cut? I'm currently trying to decide between both.

Thank you!
