Hi velouriaL
That is a gorgous stone. maybe since you want it to look like an engagement ring you could set it with a four prong setting and then have two side stones, maybe diamonds.
I have seen some gorgous rings with a green center stone and then maybe trillions on the side or whatever cut you prefer. None the less it looks gorgous in my opinion.
Good luck

Phil

Velourial-

I hope you''ll use the stone for your e-ring- the size looks wonderful on your finger and it is such a beautiful stone! I think its elegant and perfect for an e-ring, not too "fashiony" at all. I bet you''re going to have a blast designing the setting! Can''t wait to see what you come up with.

and you''re a brave girl to hold that beauty in your mouth- what a fun photo! I''m such a girl, I have to add that I love your hair cut!

Oh wow! I love that green color! It is so fun! I agree that a bit more detailed setting will make it look more like an e-ring. But then also consider your w-band carefully prior to setting as many people have trouble finding a set that works for them. I really love your stone though, very alive!

VelouriaL~

Your green tourmaline is just gorgeous and the depth of color!!!! Oh, I do hope you use it for your engagement ring. You could easily make it look "engagementy". It would be so unique and stunning!

the crystal necklace you have on in your photo! I have several sets including a couple that were my husband''s grandmothers''s. I do so love the sparkle of a beautiful crystal necklace!

Thanks, everyone! I am really excited about the stone, the ring, and, of course, the engagement (the most important part).

Catmom- Those were actually my grandmothers, too. At a cousin''s wedding, I met relative-- my mother''s cousin-- who was wearing an identical set. It turns out, she had inherited them from her mother, my grandmother''s sister. The sisters, my grandmother and her mother, has purchased them together in 1950s.

VelouriaL~

Aw, what a great story behind your necklace! I think they must have been "the thing to wear" in the 50''s. My MIL knows I love jewelry, so she gave me 3 crystal necklaces that she inherited from her mother. Maybe we should start a show me your crystal necklace thread someday!

Oh, it''s so gorgeous!!! Now I want a green tourmaline!!!! Congratulations!

Thanks, Hest. Your posts make me want a demantoid!

And speaking of green, I forgot to mention that the color of my tourm is more like slightly bluer shade in the acstones picture, no where near as yellow as it looks in my photo.

Here are the parameters, so far, for what we''re thinking about for setting:
-LOW, low as possible. I want the cutlet to pratically touch my finger. Am I allowed to have it that low?
-Chevron prongs (otherwise known as v-prongs) to protect it. Probably a stock head hammered out a little to accommodate the obtuse angle of the corners
-Something on the sides-- sidestone, engraving, something-- not sure what. I like the shank on HouMedGal''s ring, with the engraving and the melee... maybe something similar, except with just 2 or 3 sidestones on either side and my tormaline set really low in a chevron head...

velouria,
.....love the ''stone in mouth'' pic!!

i think all colored gemstones look delicious!

Belle- Yeah... I was goofing off a bit with camera.. there''s more where that came from... my chihuahua looks good in green....

Richard- No, from what I understand it''s not chrome... DOES look like it though, but Barbara from ACStones was very upfront that chemically, it''s not... colored with vanadium, maybe? I''m not sure what else makes for that great green.

Belle- Yeah... I was goofing off a bit with camera.. there's more where that came from... my chihuahua looks good in green....
well, let's see some more pics then!

They''re on my friend''s digital camera... she''s probably deleted them by now... most were pretty bad.... the stone just looked like a green blur!

Oh, FountainFairFox- I forgot to say thank you for the compliment on my hair... It, like my stone, tends to get pretty big... I have to be creative to keep it tame!

Anyone likes light-medium green color gemstones? I like green color gemstones. Here is one of my green gemstones. How do you guy think?

Here is another green gemstone with very slight yellow. It is a sapphire with weight 2.88 carats. The clarity is a little bit eye visible but does not diminish its beauty. The actual stone is really beautiful and sparkles like diamonds, just nearly like a green diamond. I still have some more green sapphires. I am just kind of crazy of green sapphires at this time.

Oooooh, Velouria, it''s soooo pretty! I LOVE it! It will look fantastic in the setting you''ve described. EEE! I can''t wait to see this ring materialize!!!!! :) BTW, I think it looks PERFECT on your hand...yes, it''s a big stone, but it looks so great on your hand!

Thanks, H-Gal!
I can''t wait!
I also can''t wait to see yours in person!

Wow, your stone looks absolutely stunning in your pics! I just realized that you posted a pic of it in your mouth! So funny! Perhaps you should get your pup a sparkly collar so she doesn''t feel left out...

I''m SO glad you decided to use this stone as your e-ring stone. It''s such a gorgeous stone & it looks perfect on your hand--not at all fashion-ringy. I can''t wait to see Michael E.''s final product!

Well, BF said he''s sending the stone off with final instructions to Michael E. today! Yay! We are going to go with a ring that''s SORTA'' like HouMedGal''s but with a modified v-prong head set REALLY low on finger, and a shank with only 3 stones on either side. So, yeah, the only real similarities are the fishtail engraving with the 2 mm diamond melee sides in white metal. I think it will definitely have an e-ringy look. Michael E. said it would take a about two weeks from the time he recieves the stone. I am so excited! his work is just beautiful, and he is such a nice guy!

My pup is actually a he, Brightspot, but he loves his sparklies just the same...

bumped for the H-town girls...

hey velouria, do we get to see the ring just as soon as you get it back?

heck yeah!

It''ll probably be another two weeks, at least. :-( (I''m impatient!)

i can''t wait to see it!! (i''m impatient too) ....the countdown begins....

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE it, PERFECT for your precious hand! I can''t wait to see it in person!

Strawderman: isn''t it PERFECT? I think it is going to look sooooooooooo fantastic on Velouria''s hand!!! And I can''t wait to see what happens after Michael E. works his magic with it.

GORGEOUS tourmaline + Michael E. = PERFECTION!!!!!!!

Velouria, you KNOW we''ll have to see it in person ASAP!

Man, that stone looks awesome. I just love non-concave cuts that actually look GOOD and symmetrical. It''s such a shame that this type of cut is almost never seen in rubies and sapphires.

I''m definitely opting for tourmalline if I want to go green for anything in the future, unless I win the lottery.

I guess I''m late to the whole discussion, but I would have said something like: *NOT* a full bezel, because the geometry of the cut is too good on the edges to just swallow up.

I look forward to pictures.

Lovely!

Thanks, all. I am excited. You will be (amoung) the first to know when I get it.

Good to see you again, Raddy! acstones.com has some pretty nice rubies and sapphires.

Pink Sapphire

Here''s a pair of spinels for you to make earring for your sweetie with (to match her awesome spinel ring, of course! (another update we''re ALL dying for!))
SP-4765B.jpg

I agree with you about tourmalines. My new favorite stone!
I would think that THIN full bezel would be nice, but I think that the v-prongs will do the trick.

Progress on your spinel creation, mmmm?

I''ve been asked a couple of times for a update, so here we go...

We sent my stone to Michael E., who is going to set it in a low, v-prong that''s been modified to accommodate the obtuse angles of the corners of my stone.
So, the head will look something like this, except with "flattened out" Vs on the prongs... does that make sense?
engagement05.jpg

(Stickee''s gorgeous ring)

The shank is going to have 6 (3 on each side) 2mm sidestones, very much like HouMedGal''s ring, also made by Michael E.:

annie3.jpg

Now imagine those two together... HMS''s ring, except with a wider, squarish stone set LOW in a modified v-prongs, and with 3 diamonds on each side rather than 5 on each side. Oh yeah, and white gold.

It should be done sometime after next week (!!!), but who knows when I''ll get it...
