Hi all,

This is my first post although I have spent a substantial amount of time reading other’s posts and most importantly reading the diamond tutorial over and over again

. So armed with all my new found "knowledge" I have searched the web for the perfect diamond for an engagement ring. I have come across 3 possibilities and would like to run these by the experts to see what you think. All of these are from James Allen, since I live very close to Frederick, MD they will ship up to 3 diamonds to their office so I can see them in person, I will have to pay for the shipping cost, of course, but I’m willing to spend a few more dollars to make sure there are no surprises.

I have the IS for (1), see attached, and am waiting for the IS for (2). The IS for (3) is available online. The first 2 diamonds are look very similar, but (1) is part of JA’s “True Hearts” collection and (2) is an ideal cut. The interesting thing is that (2) has a much better HCA score=1, than the “True Hearts” diamond score= 2.5. Can someone explain to me why that is?

The 3rd diamond is very different from the other two, but roughly the same price. So the question is, would be worth going smaller for a much better diamond? Or is (3) not that much better than the other 2?

Thanks in advance

Diamond 1 - shallow crown and deeper pavilion are geared toward white light return, at the expense of fire. A 34/41 combo will show more balanced light return. A little leaning one way or another is not a bad thing - just personal preference, but this is extreme IMHO. The HCA and H&A are separate entities. HCA estimates light output based on the angles you input (IS images trump this), H&A simply means perfect optical symmetry, which results in those perfect hearts - you can have a less-than-stellar/balanced performer with perfect optical symmetry.

2 - numbers are nice, IS will confirm.

3 - IS and hearts are nice - this stone will be beautiful.

I would wait for the IS for diamond 2 if you're not specifically looking for a H&A stone. The numbers are as safe as they get, so unless something's wrong it should be a lovely diamond

1. Personally Im not a fan... i dont like the arrow pattern.
2. I would soo wait for that one and if the IS is good then that would be my choice, has great numbers going for it so it should be a nice IS
3. Nice IS and heart pattern but there will be a noticable size difference....

Thanks for all the comments. I''m leaning towards 2 or 3 myself, I will post the IS as soon as I receive it.

If #2 is nice I would take that for the size.

I am really liking number 2. I don''t like 1 for a variet or reasons, and 3 seems to be paying for too high clarity at the cost of a lot of size compared to 2. I''d like to see the IS to be sure, but 2 seems the clear winner so far.

OK, I go the IS for the second diamond. What do you all think?

Thanks for all the feedback folks. I will most definitely be viewing that one in person.

Hi all,

I figured I would come back and post some pictures of the diamond/ring I got with your help. I ended up getting number 2. Thanks again for all your feedback, now on to planning the proposal...
