Bought myself a jadeite pendant from Lang Antiques in San Francisco. No, it is not Imperial Jade, but I didn't pay much for it either.

Left pendant was from my high school boyfriend.
Right pendant was from my late mom and is too fragile for everyday wear imo.

Yaaay another person who likes jade!!!! It's lovely and such a pretty shade of green.

Your high school boyfriend has good taste!!! I really like that pendant too! 18 yo Pink Bandit gave me these dodgy opal earrings he bought from one of those tourist shops!

You should look into beads as well! So awesome during a hot summer

Pretty! I like how all three pendants kinda match.

Nice! I do love jade, it has a touchy-feely quality about it and the colour always looks good :)

I hope you enjoy wearing it!

It has such a timeless feel and a truly lovely color.

Lovely @cflutist! Soft and feminine and jadeitelicious.

I know nothing about jade but these are really pretty! Are they more sea-foamy green or bamboo green IRL?

All three of them are gorgeous!

Congratulations! Very pretty and I’m sure it makes a great statement on. I just LOVE Lang’s! I bought a lavender jade pendant from them last summer, and just the whole experience was great. It’s such a treat to marvel at all the treasures in there.

I know nothing about jadite but all 3 of those look amazing to me. :twirl:

Do you mind posting it? Would love to see it.

Sure! Here it is....I found the pictures to be very accurate. I included mine as comparison.

Gosh, that is so beautiful. Congratulations!

Yeah, in the Auto mode with no flash, my Samsung phone made it looked bluish. :eek2:

And a few more, one at the shop, one at home, and the other pendant contender.

Thanks! I bet you could layer your pendants on different lengths of chain. They are all gorgeous!

Omg, the photo in the shop is even more beautiful. I need to visit this place the next time I am in San Francisco.
I am confident buying CBI diamonds online from HPD but not so much with colored stones.
Didn't trust myself going to Chinatown or the Gift Center.

HI:

WOW! ME LUVS!!!!

May I ask--what is it about your Mothers pendant that make it delicate--is it thin? Looks gorgeous.

cheers--Sharon

I also have this one from my late mother, but again it is too fragile to wear everyday.

Yes, both of them are rather thin. The one from my high school boyfriend is thicker but I still managed to chip it on the bottom.

Wow, that’s gorgeous! Just curious, Why do you think it’s fragile? I ask because even thin jade can be extremely strong.

Around 5 years ago, when I started working again, I bought myself an antique, carved bangle with an area which is so thin, i thought that it might well crack eventually, but I’ve worn it for years now without any problems. It’s not small on me at 58mm, so it does get banged plenty.

Ugh, I second not trusting Chinatown for jade! Had a bad first jade buying experience there.

I guess it takes one chip to make one weary of fragility. It’s strange, some jade is very strong, and others not so much. I bought my daughter an untreated lavender bangle. It had a mid grain, ‘sugar’ texture, ( which seems looser to me) which may have hid a fracture. Anyhow, she slammed her wrist down at school and it broke in two. I had it banded after that.

My late mom's pendant is rather thin, plus it looks like there are "feathers" in it (not a jade expert).

What beautiful and special pieces you have! That’s gorgeous. I think that it would rarely get knocked as a pendant, ( unless on a very long chain) and it has the exterior gold protecting it. But I completely understand your concern. Given the sentiment, what would one do if it cracked! Those could be natural stone lines or fractures. But some fractures heal or partially heal, even though one will always visually see the original line.

Omg I love the lavender jade and its halo! I'll have to stop by Lang's next time that I visit SF.

The pendant is lovely, and you should wear it more, though I can understand not wanting to break it since it looks thin. (This is coming from someone who broke a jade bangle as a teenager by accidentally dropping it on tile floor and stopped wearing all jade bangles. sad :(()

I know nothing about jade, except i know you all are picky about it! I kinda like the multicolored stuff (but hey I'm a weirdo...:geek2:)

But its an education. I read a lot of the jade threads here with great interest.

You must drop by Lang's next time. It’s like a jewelry museum. The inventory is immense! And, there are some really fabulous, artistically refined pieces from many style periods throughout the ages. So interesting and inspiring. Most is hand made stuff.

Sorry about your bangle having broken. My daughter, who broke her bangle now doesnt wear it even after it was banded because of fear of it happening again. So now I wear it sometimes, which she is fine with. She just doesn’t trust herself with the bangle.

I still have the broken pieces. It used to be part of a pair of icy jade bangles purchased for me back in 1999. I got out the other one to try on the other day, and my hand has outgrown the bangle. :cry2: I think I'll wait and see whether I eventually make a kid who's interested in my jewelry.

Oh gosh, how awful! Have you ever considered doing something with the pieces, like a multi segmented bracelet? Once, I fell head over heels in love with a bangle which was simply too tight. It was a 51 by 40 something oval....so I had it sliced in half and put a hinge on it. I know that for some, this would be crazy, but I liked the hinged bangle look enough to be ok with it. If it’s a very valuable bangle though, one loses value by hinging since a solid bangle is worth more than a hinged one. It might be worth just loving it as a non worn piece! Some jewelry is great just to have.
