I was getting a little bored with my modern platinum setting with my old cut diamond, and saw Dreamer was selling a nice little vintage setting that was about the right size for my diamond so snapped it up! My jeweller had to modify the head slightly to fit the diamond as my diamond was a bit too big (and fat!). He re-made the claws and re-dipped it and it looks gorgeous!

Here are before and afters. Excuse the phone pics, but I wanted to get the pics whilst it was all shiny and clean. :appl: The wedding ring was my grandmothers and goes nicely with it.

It looks beautiful, congratulations on the new setting!

Really pretty GM. I look forward to seeing those at our next g2g! :naughty: It must be like having a whole new set as its such a transformation from your original ring. The new set looks like it was made for your stone.

Thanks armywife and chel! It is like having a new set, and yes it does look like the diamond and mount were meant to be together. Even the jeweller agreed it looked great! He thought I was a bit mad at first to change it, and even said I could always change it back to the old setting. But he said he really liked it too!

BTW chel if you ever need a good fix it jeweller in Perth, let me know, as I have quite a few things done with him (resizing, dipping, this job etc) and have always been happy. He does make rings etc also but I can't vouch for them.

Hey it turned out great!!! :appl:

It looks so nice. The setting has great hand presence and your diamond looks right at home.

I really think your diamond looks better in this period-appropriate mount, too. The setting is likely from the 1930s, and your diamond looks like an earlier make -- perhaps a few decades earlier. But still, that style of mount really suits the high crown and protects the girdle to boot. It looks HUGE on your hand too!

So glad you love it!!

ETA: You need a diamond band to go with it :Up_to_something:

It looks great.

I think you made a great decision to snatch up that setting! It looks really fantastic with your stone. And what finger coverage!

hmmm maaaayyyyybeeeee! Whatya got?

Thanks again Dreamer, you were fabulous to deal with, and I could not be happier.

Thanks also Marcy & Rosebloom! It does look so much bigger (and better) than the old setting. Which of course is the ultimate goal after all.

I ain't got nothing, but I'm sure you can find something! I am just trying to enable your new set.

Oh OK, hahaha. I do have the diamond band pictured with the my original setting, but I think the diamond stands out more without any competition. I would like a flatter band, I will keep an eye out.

It turned out great, it looks beautiful in it's new home.

I love it!! Looks great with your stone!

beautiful reset!!!!

You new setting is indeed gorgeous!! Dreamer IMHO,is a an OEC guru :)

I have to ask about your original modern setting--do you plan on keeping it or selling it? If it meets what I am looking for, I'd be interested in learning more about it--thanks in advance.

Lovely! A true classic!

Thanks Brightice, Laila, Sarahbear, Sarahb & Acinom!

It is nice to have something that makes me smile at the moment! My father is seriously unwell, and we nearly lost him a few nights ago. I got the call from the jeweller that is was ready when I was leaving the hospital to go to work, so went straight there to get it.

Sarahb, I will probably keep the old setting, in case I want to swap back at any stage. My stone is only 6mm (or a bit more) - how big is the stone you have? It is platinum and was made for me locally here in Australia.

Oh dear, I am so sorry--I hope your father is resting comfortably & is on the mend!

I don't blame you for keeping your setting, it is very nice :). Thanks for your response, & again, I hope all gets better with your father.
