Oh Lesley. I''m so sorry. I had my car broken into a few years ago and nothing important was taken but I felt very violated and no longer safe in my "safe" neighborhood. i hope your chocolate was yummy and they catch the guys.

Ugh... that does stink.

I''m sorry to hear about this Lesley. Thank God you called and got everything in order and I hope the cops get em.

On a lighter note, this Saturday we were celebrating my nieces birthday and my wife and I rode our bicycles to their house (not too far away) and my wifes purse fell out of her bag. When we got home we were surprised to learn that the people whose house in fell in front of returned it and she even had $200 in cash in there.

You can''t be too careful these days. Please let us know if airport security gets these bastiges.

Kind regards,

Lesley, I am so sorry to hear this happened to you.

Following Storm''s advice, not only should you contact Equifax, but Experian and TransUnion as well.

I hope they get these @#*(@#&$(#@$# at the airport today.

Be especially careful if you leave laptops in your car. DH has had one stolen and an attempt. The second time he hid the laptop under the mat, but the thieves saw the bag and broke in, well they left his empty bag, but stole his duffel bag with lots of clothes, including his favorite shoes and his lucky boxers that I had given him (he''s very superstitious), thinking the laptop would be in there.

Also about the SS card, you don''t want to lose that, b/c when you go the SS office to get a new one, you are forced to hang around creepy people while you are waiting.

Lesley, that is SUCH a bummer and I''m so sorry!!! Honestly though, I don''t think you could have handled it any better than you did--I wouldn''t have been so on the ball. Cool as a cucumber

My car was stolen from right outside of my house so I know that sick feeling of violation--but I wasn''t nearly as smooth as you were! Glad that the cops looked after you (and called to check in!!) and I will be EAGER to hear what transpired at the airport. Seriously what kind of numnuts purchase a ticket with a stolen CC!!

I think you''re entitled to extra chocolate this week

Too right. My FI had his laptop stolen out of his car. He left the bag in the back seat. No matter how many times previously I told him not to lave stuff in the back seat unattended, he wouldn''t listen. No use saying ''I told you so'' afterwards....he had learnt his lesson. If we are going out now, he will put items in the boot, out of eye view - BUT he is sooooooooo stupid at times. He will put it in the back seat, when we arrive at our destination, he will then take it out of the back seat and then put it in the boot!! He can''t understand that a would be thief could be watching him doing this and will therefore know he has stuff in the boot! One day, someone is going to steal stuff out of the boot and he will wonder how the thieves knew.

Lesley,

I''m so sorry to hear that this happened! Things like that make you feel so violated, that you lose more than just your purse.

*hugs*

This is excellent advice - my husband's wallet was stolen and of all things in the world to carry he had his SOCIAL SECURITY card! That is very difficult to replace - you have to prove not that you were born but that you exist!

Huh......the breathing-while-standing-in-the-SS-office thing isn't a tip-off? Yep - gotta love those government workers. LOL

So sorry to hear of your misfortune, Lesley.....hope they recover your things and that you are resting much more comfortably tonight!

Hi All:

Well, I did not hear anything re: the airport but that doesn't mean a thing based on the apathy I experienced at the police station. I promise that if I hear anything I will post right away. I am still beating myself over the head about the social security card....thank goodness for Equifax, Experian and TransUnion (when you call one they notify the other 2.) Atleast I will be alerted if there is any financial activity at all. (FYI - I have a second ss card that I applied for when I mislaid the first one a few years ago. It showed up months later so I had 2!!)

I got a new drivers' license so I guess now all that's left to do, is to go and buy a new wallet!! This time it will be micro mini and will only have 1 credit card, a few $$ and the driver's license in it.

Just had some mocha fudge ice cream and am off to bed soon....I am a terrible chocoholic but validate it with the memory of a magazine article I once read that said that daily chocolate is good for women - LOL.

Thanks for all your support. You all made an unfortunate incident so much more bearable with your kind words, advice, interest and support.

Hi Leslie ~

I am sorry if this was already addressed, if so, please disregard ... I''m very tired.

Make sure you call the nearest Social Security Office, and let them know that someone stole it, someone told me that they can see where your number is "working" as in what city & state.

People''s ss# are being sold at auction house''s and then the illigals that use them get work, get paid, however they usually will claim exempt and people "original owners of the ssn#''s" have been getting back tax bills from the IRS!!!

Anyway, call SS office, and they might want you to call IRS too?

Gosh this really is awful!

Take care!

Lesley, again, sorry for the troubles you have been having...one question, are you eating dark or milk chocolate?!

Diamondfan

Only a fellow chocoholic can ask that. To be honest I eat both but I do prefer milk over dark any day. I know that dark is the one that is supposed to be good for you, but milk is so much more heavenly

I agree, that is why I asked! I always said that at least there is some chemical in chocolate that is good for you and my best friend, who likes dark chocolate only, always teases me that only SHE gets the benefits! (I beg to differ!) Do NOT like white chocolate that much, and it is not even chocolate, no cocoa bean in it all! Well, I am truly sorry for your stresses and hassles over this, and hope it all is a distant memory very soon! In the meantime, you may self medicate with a nice candy bar or ice cream and try to put it all behind you!

Lesley, I''m a bit late here, but I''m so sorry that happened to you. Hope those good for nothing jerks get caught. If they''re stupid enough to buy airline tickets, they deserve to spend their time rotting in jail. I HATE identity thieves with a passion. Hope everything''s okay with you.

Oh, Lesley!
My heart goes out to you! At least you have a beautiful family as well as the chocolate for comfort
1.gif
I truly hope they catch the criminals so you can put this experience behind you and *hopefully* avoid any and all identity theft.

And at least you were holding your keys! My friend had her wallet stolen from her purse (she''d put it in her locker at the gym), but felt that was the extent of it until her car was stolen from her driveway 2 days later. It turns out the thieves made an impression of her car and house key and was therefore able to just drive away. My friend was just happy they didn''t break into her house, but to this day she wonders if they had or would have tried. Fortunately the theives were caught that day trying to cross the border into Mexico with the stolen car (and wallet), but ever since then I never put my keys in my purse if I''m at the grocery store or whatever. Now I''ll be sure to keep my purse on me as well!

I really hope this all ends quickly and as painlessly as possible for you. I''m just glad you weren''t injured, and that you were so on top of the situation.

Take care of yourself and please keep us updated!

That really sucks! It happened to me a few years ago and it wasn''t too much trouble because I didn''t have a credit card at the time, but I was still upset! You reacted very well, so bravo! And I hope everything gets fixed up in no time.

You guys are not going to believe this!! I got home from work this evening and in my pile of mail, there were 2 letters from Southwest Airlines marked "open immediately". Inside where the notices of cancellation/ credit card refund notification with the NAMES OF THE PASSENGERS who were going to fly!! They are not generic names either. I have put a call into the police officer who was assigned to the case and hopefully he will call back tomorrow. Then if nothing happened at the airport they might want to pursue this lead. I''ll let you know if anything transpires.......

I hope they catch the nasty b*st*rds!

Leslie,

I''m so sorry about what happened. Something similar happen to me many years ago, one of my credit card number was stolen from my purse in my office, inside a desk drawer at work! The thief put the card back but started charging stuff via mail order (pre Internet days). Now I make it a habit to check my bank accounts/balances and my credit card balances online regularly...like everyday or every couple of days.

It is unfortunate the police couldn''t get to the airport faster, but there seems to be more crime than police power these days.

Take care.
SLuke

Hi Lesley, Sorry I''m so late adding to this thread, heavy work commitments have prized me away from PS the past few months, which I haven''t been happy about. How dare work get in the way of important stuff!

I''m really sorry you had such a bad experience, it makes my blood boil when thieves take from others. I haven''t had a wallet snatched, but I have had two homes burgled, so I know what it feels like to have what''s rightfully yours, taken. I sympathise because it''s really upsetting. I found it was the invasion of my privacy that upset me more than anything else.

I did, however, have to laugh at the airline ticket cancellation received in the mail, that is just unbelievable. It reminds me of when my sister had her purse taken from her office as did many co-workers (obviously a walk-in thief). Fortunately she immediately had all the locks changed in her house because her keys were in her purse. A couple of weeks later she had her passport returned to her in the mail to her home address, which made her feel very uneasy.

I hope the perpetrators are caught and hung out to dry in the Arizonian desert!
