Has she cleaned them?

She does clean them every few weeks with Dawn.

Every few weeks is not nearly enough! Hands touch lots of things and lots of things touch our jewelry. Keeping her rings clean will definitely increase sparkle.
Are the rings made with platinum? If so, they could need repolishing. Made with white gold? They could need to be re-rhodium plated.
What is the color and clarity of her diamond? Is it well cut? Those things factor into a diamond’s performance.

I would start with a simple mini ultrasonic cleaner - they are like $30 on amazon. Warm/hot water with a couple drops of dawn dish soap. Super soft baby toothbrush. Everytime I shower so do my rings.
Here’s the one I have… https://www.amazon.com/Upgraded-Ult...2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfbXRm&psc=1

If that doesn’t help- it may be the actual cut of the stone. When it’s time to upgrade, circle back here. There are several “cut masters” who love to help find incredibly cut stones out there at great prices.

Thanks. Yes the rings are platinum. About 8 years old. I can dig up the report…

Thanks. I actually posted the videos from IDJ here before purchasing.

I would try the cleaning first and then maybe see about having the rings polished. Platinum develops a patina but can be brought back to shiny with a good polish! I am sure her rings are beautiful!

Hi there! In our humble experience, sometimes, the best route is a basic one. What we advise our customers who are always short on time and are not interested in going out to buy things for cleaning, is as follows..

Using a toothbrush and fairy liquid (detergent liquid) mildly apply the brush to the diamond and the ring and brush it, slowly. In a few minutes we have had such rings gleaming and returning to their dazzling properties. There are many other ways or techniques, no doubt, but this has worked for some of our customers who were quite happy with the way the results turned out. And they called us last minute :)

Does she wear her rings 24/7? Didn’t rings sparkle and look brighter when you first got them?

Yes and yes

So my guess is just years of gunk collected in around and under all the diamonds. I don’t recommend 24/7 were for fine jewels and especially for pave setting, but if you insist then I think an ultrasonic is in order. Soap scum, skin cells, food…. It all collects.

Some Pricescopers wash their jewelry in a sonic cleaner every day while in the shower. Keeping soap,
hand lotion, body oil, dirt, etc. from building up helps to keep your stone/jewelry sparkly. After it builds
up it may take a steam cleaner to get little bits out (ask me how I know!).

Thanks all. Can anyone comment on the stone in the video? Does it look like it *should* sparkle?

You said it used to… there is the answer.

Unfortunately, ovals will never sparkle like a well-cut RB. It's just the nature of the beast/cut. However,
we tend to love them for other reasons ...like their beautiful shape.

I know they're considered specialty/boutique, but Brian Gavin, Distinctive Gem, and JannPaul have H&A ovals that will perform almost identical to the extremely well cut and proportioned RBCs. :D

Yes, I should have caveated that....with the exceptions of branded ovals.
