My fiancé and I have looked at (and put $) towards:

for: .75 center H/I VS/SI1 for $10,800

Now I'm having second thoughts. While the ring is GORGEOUS (I can post a pic later) it also has a huge price tag. I was thinking of getting the 3 stone BG semi bezel with a 1.1 blue and .34ish sides with some custom touches for around the same price. It's huge finger real estate.

I'm just nervous about the blue. I can get a .90 as well.. is that a big change?

Are the diamonds comparable to HOF? I know they have a premium.. my fiancé doesn't really want to listen to me as he's bought into the "nothing can be better than HOF" mentality.

I'm just looking for advice.. our budget is 10k.

wow...had a look at the HOF link and that is just unbelievable. That much cash for an under 3/4 ct center stone.

While I don't have any direct experience with HOF, I think ANY branded super ideal cut (from one of the online vendors here) you go with is probably going to be comparable, and more affordable. You could always get a stone in to look at, take it around to stores to compare and send it back in to whomever you get it from to have the final setting done once you've assured yourself.

BGD stones are way better than HOF. You are totally paying for a name with them. Compare them to anything else the store has and clearly HOF are superior. But you can get the same cut quality (and better!) online from a number of great jewelers for much much less. I have bought from GOG, Whiteflash, James Allen and BGD and all of these diamonds are by far better than any HOF stones I've seen and I've paid thousands less. I just got new BGD studs - see my thread below for pics. I went into a store to try on HOF studs for size comparisons only before I bought online and the difference in price for the same size studs in a similar color and clarity was astounding. I would have paid upwards of $3,000 more if I got the HOF earrings.

I will tell you that Brian Gavin, WhiteFlash and Good Old Gold have stones at LEAST equal to HoF and very possibly BETTER!!! I have seen both and I own WF ACA's and I have had a GOG H&A stone! They are top quality hearts and arrows diamonds! It would be C.R.A.Z.Y., and I mean totally and completely NUTS to buy HoF!!!! It would be kind of like flushing money down the toilet! Seriously!!!! :errrr: (I know there are people here who bought HoF not knowing about other options at the time and they have great quality rings. They just overpaid.) Either save money and go with the same thing with BG (or WF or GOG) or spend the same amount and get larger diamonds!!!

If you go with BG Blue, be sure you can get all three stones blue, though.

Try to remember that in a jewelry store, the trick lighting is going to make most any diamond sparkle so a picture of a sparkly stone doesn't really tell you much about it. When you get out of the store and in to real world lighting is where the tires meet the pavement, as it were, with a stone.

In the end it is your money and you will spend it how you are most comfortable. I could never be comfortable handing over that much cash when I knew I could get something just as nice, and larger for much less elsewhere, but that is me. For the majority of people, who perhaps won't or don't educate themselves on stones, a HOF is probably the nicest stone they will ever see. Too bad they don't know they can get one just as well cut (or perhaps better) if they'd just do a little extra research. There is certainly a price for convenience.

FWIW- the HOF ring you posted is very feminine and dainty and the 3 stone you describe yourself looking at sounds contemporary and no-fuss. Are you sure of what you want?

Also- you seem to have asked this exact question before, and gotten much the same answer. Were you hoping for a different one this time?

I think BG has gorgeous settings, but I think that particular half bezel setting looks pretty contemporary to add the engraving. I'd probably go with their basket setting or something if I were adding engraving. But regardless, they will make you a beautiful ring, no doubt about it!

Well, I am just glad you were able to rethink the HOF idea once you stepped away from the store! I assure you that many of us here are cuts nuts, and I truly know that BG, WF, GOG all have stones equal to HoF for much better prices. HoF just costs more because they are marketed in traditional jewelry stores and the prices are just really high. We have another brand here called Infinity, and those are also outstanding stones, but they are also a good bit higher because they are mainly marketed through regular jewelry stores. We are all just really fortunate to have found this forum so we could get top quality for a more reasonable price!
