Has anyone ever seen natural blue diamonds between 10 and 20 points used for pave? Would the color be saturated enough? I know that they would be very pricey, but I haven''t seen this small size anywhere. Do they exist? I would be looking for enough to form a "halo" around a .5 center white diamond.

Clearly I am a poor typer! That should be Diam-o-nd!

Looking at other rings, I guess I would want even smaller stones than that. Maybe .03-.05? Do they even cut blue diamonds that small? I like the idea of blue diamonds a lot better than sapphires because I prefer the color and the brilliance, but maybe I should give up on this dream...

Sorry, I can''t answer your question. . .but wondered which web site you found your avatar jewelry piece. . .

... meaning the washed out light grayish-blue of fancy blue melee instead of blue sapphires ?

This was a ring up for auction on ebay several years ago (1999 maybe?). I bid on it, but did not meet the reserve. The seller emailed me and offered it to me for less than the original reserve. I struggled with the decision because I was still in college and it was a lot of money for me. Finally, my BF convinced me that it was too great an expense and I passed on it. I have regretted it ever since! I have another view of it that I can send/post for you if you are interested.

Ana: Well, I do like the grayish blue color of most blue diamonds, but I guess that you are saying you think they would be too washed out? Don''t get me wrong, I like sapphires, but for my e-ring I just feel like having blue dimaonds would be truly wonderful. I have a free .5 center stone (my mother''s), so there is plenty of extra budget to do something special.

Relative to sapphires sure they are. I would have to struggle to see blue in there, but there's no knowing if that is true for you too until you try. It was not clear from the previous post if it was blue in general or blue as in blue sapphire accents that you prefer.

Pink melee has the advantage of pink gold that can enhance their presence quite a bit. But there is no blue metal to help blue diamonds. I don't know of any relevant picture online... Unless you might consider so two .09cts triangles LINK

I think blue diamonds would be stunning! if you can afford it I would say go for it! I love the way blue diamonds look, and that would ensure that you would never see another ring like yours.

The color of most natural blue diamonds, especially in small sizes is greyish, faint blue. They can be quite attractive and someone sophisticated looking closely at the ring would find such stones very different. They sure don''t look like sapphires.

Synthetic blue diamonds exist in much bluer coloration. They don''t really look sapphire like as their grey component remains, but they can be pretty deeply colored. Synthetics would leave no one unable to notice the color difference between the center diamond and the side stones. Few people would ever guess these were even diamonds as deep blue colors are VERY rare in natural diamonds and virtually priceless in matched colors.

Pink diamonds may be more readily obtained in natural, synthetic and treated types. But, they aren''t blue. Happy hunting!
