Congratulations, beautiful color and a minor cut issue is really minor, because the stone is very saturated. It was very nice of you to post medium green tsavorite and a new minty side by side because one can vividly see that the dividing line between a "mint garnet" and a medium-toned saturated bluish tsavorite is very, very arbitrary. Thank you.

Cost is not an issue because the vendor will touch it up at no cost to me. Also, with the window not being obvious plus seems to disappear on the hand, I think it might be best to leave it alone. Opinions? Dish it out! I can handle it.

I don't have a lot of knowledge about the recutting but you have it in hand and are happy with it. If you live with it a while I'm sure you'll decide whether it's "unique qualities" remain within your tolerance - personally, I don't think I'd risk one iota of it's stunning colour.

Lovely! Even I, a huge sucker for precision cutting, would not have that stone recut. It looks gorgeous as it is. These stones just GLOW in the sunlight! Add me to the list of people who can't afford decent mint garnets of that size. I have two <6mm rounds with lovely color and (of course) precision cutting.

For what it's worth, I had Jaimeen "recut" a chrysoberyl that I bought from him a few months ago. Similar situation - it had nice color and a small window. The recutting was at no charge, and it turned out really nice. The end result on mine (and likely on yours too) is not a precision-cut stone by PS standards, but the window closed up and not much carat weight was lost. He also did it at his own risk, meaning that if I didn't like the finished product, I didn't have to buy it. One more reason to like that company!

I'd vote for waiting a few weeks/months and see if the cut bothers you. If it does, I bet that he would still recut it for you, and probably wouldn't charge you very much, if at all.

Chrono---you are killing me...I am really trying to hold it in....

OTL--the stone hasn't left the gem jar...I wont ever set it. It was a good buy though...so I wouldn't want to sell it, and I'd feel bad selling it at a profit..

So OTL, how about a trade of some kind? ALways like to trade. Its easy to get a hold of me, I cant post my email address but its the same as my screen name and I use a very popular email service that starts with a Y and ends with a couple of o's.

Out of curiosity, why are you willing to trade but not sell? There's no need to charge more than what you paid for it. If anything, I've not seen secondhand stones on DB sell for more than the original price.

I appreciate your input, even those who disagree with my opinion. Thank you for all your lovely compliments too. I figured it was only time before someone asks for side by side pictures of the mint next to my tsav so I figured I'd save some typing. The two are quite comparable, only that one is lighter and one is darker. I've seen some websites where a mint of this tone would have been sold as a tsavorite with tsav pricing.

Chrono, I'd sell it...

My issue is this. I bought the stone very cheap...I dont know why it was listed at $94, but thats why I jumped on it, and thats probably why Brad said it was the most requested stone last month. I did ask him about the low price, and he told me once in a while he tries to do something nice for the buyers. It is a very nice stone.

But, anyways, so I feel that the stone is worth more than what I paid. So, it doesnt make sense to sell it for what it cost me. If I have a number in my head for what Id want for it, and others saw it, wouldnt they think I was trying to take advantage of people? That is the problem that I am having with re selling it, and why I asked if she would want to do a trade.

If I decide to sell it, I could either list it on my eBay site and see how it ends up with the bidding, or, I could list it on the 'bistro with a make offer as price, but I just dont know.

I would be interested in opinions.

The chrysoberyl I bought was 3.46 ct., square cushion cut, approx 9mm. Honestly, I don't visit their website much - it's new and I don't think they've gotten it fully up and running. You're right though, not all of their inventory is on the site. They come to my area (Northern VA / DC area) 4-5 times per year at Intergem, so fortunately I have plenty of opportunities to view their inventory in person. They are coming back in November, so I'll probably think hard about the Merelanis then I imagine.

The stone is priced well and for several reasons. Light coloured tourmalines are generally inexpensive. The mint tourmaline also has a slight yellow modifier. I'd bet if it had some blue, pricing on it will not be $94. The good thing about this stone is that it is precision cut, so this compensates for the low RI. Garnets have higher RI and would out sparkle a tourmaline anyday. If look at Brad's seafoam or bluish green tourmalines, you'll see that pricing is significantly higher but not as high as a comparable garnet.

I realize that the garnets are a more brilliant stone. I wouldn't go so far as to say that all green garnets are worth more than all green Tourmalines. Ive seen lots of yucky green grossulars. Precision cut ones...

Anyways, we can agree to disagree on the value of the stone. I think it was under priced, due to everything 'mint' right now being a premium. The stone isn't exactly over-ridden with yellow...it is just barely there, to my eye anyway. I see it in my mint garnet, too, when its in the mood to be yellow. Sometimes its in the mood to be blue. I dont know!!

For now, the stone is worth more to me than what I paid, even though its a collection piece. I thought a trade would be a fair option so that nobody thought I was trying to take advantage of someone by selling the stone for more than what I paid. Oh well, thats my deal.

PS is, strictly speaking, a non-professional forum. Members of the trade participate in it, but most of them come to educate us. some also show stones from their collections. When I once got personal over a misperceived sale, it was soon mentioned that politeness was the prevailing spirit of this forum.
I re-read old threads of participants who no longer post. They have beautiful, expensive, stones, and yet they are graceful and supportive of everyone else
There is just a bunch of old-timers who are trying to
preserve this spirit of mutual respect. It is very important given the amont of newbies that are coming. Our posting styles are different, and we may like or dislike each other, but where would this forum be if everyone started using capital letters when addressing a fellow PS-er? Acording to the Internet etiquette, it is shouting. PS gives us the opportunity to use bold font, or italics...
I am not coming here often, although I have just made two new rings. And I would have posted them on the CS, it has been my forum. Instead, I am waiting for glamor shots to post on SMTB. I do not want see "eyes rolled" in response to my posts or, worse, witness someone's high level of expressed emotions. And I think that Chrono's thread, with two beautiful stones in it, is not the place to become personal over own bargains/sales.
Sorry for the long post. For years, there had been reservations about Preloved Jewelry. Now we have it, with links to DB and other sales websites. And we have Hangout to vent our feelings. Chrono, thank you for showing us your great stones and your wonderful photos.
