Hello! I just received my ring after what felt like years of waiting :) I love everything about it...except the prongs. They aren’t what I was expecting and do not look like the CAD.

My problem is after so long waiting, the last thing I want to do is send it away again. Is this something I’ll just get used to or will it bother me? Does it look “industrial” or unfinished? I’ll attach pics below, but basically I’d want them”softened”. Right now the prongs looks like little squares all around my diamond. I just don’t know if it’s worth it to have to go through all the trouble. Please advise!

You have a gorgeous stone and beautiful wedding set. I see exactly what you mean about the prongs. I also like delicate looking prongs. I’m not sure you’d get use to it or not. Keep the ring for now and wear it. See what happens? The ring is so new you are hyper aware of everything.
Edit to add: Or send it back sooner so you know you can really enjoy it once all said and done.

Thanks and this is exactly what I’m wondering. Of course from a distance you can’t see the details, but I’m obsessively staring at it all the time right now so I definitely notice!

This is personal only... the prongs were literally the most important part on the ring to me and it took me 6 months to decide on the prongs I wanted..... yeah, not kidding on that. Soooooo I get it! For me, because the prongs were that important to me, I'd send it back. I obsessively take pictures and stare at my ring constantly, that didn't go away for me.

My ring wasn't right the first time and I stewed about it for 18 months before I changed it, and I regret not changing it sooner because I never really loved it until I actually changed it. Now I am so incredibly happy every time I look at it.

I see on the CAD the prongs look slightly tapered and domed, on the actual ring they look more like square flat tabs, so I see the difference. If you like the CAD prongs better you should speak up!

Prongs should be an easy, quick fix. I would send it back because if it bothers you now, there's a good chance it'll bother you later.

Prongs are really important to me. You should have it the way you want it!

I see the difference you are talking about... and, for me, I would return it to get it sorted, or more time and energy will be spent on - do I like it, do I want to get it sorted.... and I mean a lot of time will be spent on it when you can spend time thinking about your next bling project!!

As Nike says: just do it!
lol

If you aren’t happy with the prongs I think you should send it back right away. You deserve to love your ring....It may be miscommunication between you and the jeweler. Look online to see what type of prongs you like and send them to him/her.

If you dont like it, send it back. But i would do some research 1st so you can tell the jeweler exactly what you want the change to be? These are tab prongs. Do you want petite tab prongs? Do you want claw prongs? Take a look around and decide exactly what you want so theres no confusion.

Btw, gorgeous ring and stone!!! :kiss2:

Better to get it where you’re happy, sooner than later. The thing I’d say is the CAD and the pictures don’t look far off, at least not to me. Perhaps provide the jeweler photos of actual, prong design that hits your sweet spot and do CADs from there versus having the designer interoperate your description from deceptions and verbalization...?

Thank you! And yes, I originally sent in close up pics of the actual Tiffany setting to go off, since I love those prongs. I also originally requested "petite tab prongs". So they had pics to go off of and created that CAD, which I thought was pretty accurate, but the final product looks harsher, with sharper edges.

I was actually going to say, they look in your photo to be pretty close to tiffany tab prongs, but i wouldnt say they are petite. @msop04 has petite tab prongs maybe check out her ring?

Yes, I love her prongs! But they had accurate pics to go off of...so I'm wondering how I would word it now to get it right. I keep using the word "soften" (all the edges), because that's all I can think to describe it. I don't want them to turn into blobs or anything if I have them modify it.

@KLE - that’s a beautiful ring and stone you have there! Would you mind sharing what setting it is? Also if you could also share a pic of the side view. I’m interested to see how your prongs look from the side on view. Thanks so much!

Thank you! It’s the New York Classic setting by HP Diamonds. I made a few tweaks but nothing that looks very different from the original. 5C16A769-8104-41A8-A90A-DC64DFAE7C49.jpeg

Maybe ask them to narrow the prongs a bit? Not sure if thats what you want? Im pretty sure you dont want claw (my avitar) which is a very narrow pointy prong.

@KLE - your ring is beautiful - please tell us the stats of your new diamond!

I think soften is a good word and I would ask them to soften the shoulders of the prongs. I think that might take off the hard edges of the prongs. If you think the prongs are too wide, you could ask them to narrow them a bit as well.

Yea, soften, narrow, maybe even round off? These are all good descriptive words.

Thank you! It’s a CBI 2.09 F VS2! I didn’t want to do a big “show off” post until I figured out what to do about these prongs ;)

OMG! I am getting that setting as well (most likely for the stone we talked about earlier. They are priced a bit higher but look so lovely. Exactly what I want!

I would love a link or details on the diamond you eventually decided. I am still in between G-H.

Gotcha! It looks beautiful and I am sure they can operate on those prongs and make them beautiful to your eye! Can't wait for your SMTB thread!

Let me see if I can link. Hope that worked!

The setting is very good quality, I love the weight of it and the high polish is awesome. I was between this and the vatche u113 to get the classic Tiffany look.

For some reason I don't really like Vatche U113 - but I do love their NY Classic. Nice choice... Hope to see your ring (along with the prongs the way you want them) soon.

I don’t see much of a difference between the prongs in the CAD and the prongs you ended up with, TBH. I do think it’s good you are trying to sort it out tho. I’m sure once all said and done you are going to be glad you corrected the prongs. Either way it’s still a beautiful ring! :)

Question: I love your thin plain band. What’s the width on that? Also, what’s the width on your ER? I love how thin everything else.

Thank you! On the website it says the ER is 2.1-2.3 mm. The plain band is 1 mm in 14k white gold that I found on amazon.

I love your ring. I agree that you need to return it and get the prongs tweaked. Personally I like the prongs and think they’d afford more protection for your stone as they are; however, it’s only YOU who needs to be satisfied. I’ve heard so many times on PS that if it bothers you now it will only bother you MORE later.

I think the prongs look like the CAD, but obviously you need to be 100% happy. I'd just make sure you have pics of exactly what you want to avoid any miscommunication

I’m not an expert but it looks like an easy fix to me. The CAD has square shaped prongs with soft, rounded edges and your ring appears to have prongs with harsher, sharper edges. I think if they polish the edges to round them off a bit more it would be fine. You could also ask a trusted local jeweler because then they could just do a bit at a time with polishing them down.

Probably better to send it back to the vendor though but I would be clear that the prongs don’t look like the CAD because they really should. The vendor should make it right. I don’t think it’s going to end up being that difficult. I think you want to describe it as wanting the square “shape” but not the square “edges”.
