Hello,

I did a lot of research to figure out what type to try and find the perfect diamond for the right price... after much consideration I went ahead with this 1.7 ct H SI2 excellent cut that was "eye clean" according to the rep from James Allen. I could barely see any inclusions if any under the 10-30x magnifications on their website. It got a 1.5 in the Pricescope HCA tool and is an "excellent" cut.

When I got the ring, I wasn't all that impressed and thought the stone didn't pop like I thought it would. It almost seems cloudy and a little grey.

I don't know much about diamonds even after looking at a lot of information and tons of options online.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks,

DB

We won't be able to give you a lot of info on the stone from those photos, as they're not particularly clear, but if you're not happy, then maybe you need to look for another stone. Do you have a link for that stone on the JA site? Was it a stone the PS group helped you select? Perhaps we can assist you in identifying what you're seeing that you don't like about it? Is it clean?

Lighting also makes a huge difference in how a diamond performs. You're not going to get good performance under fluorescent lights. Be sure to take it outside, in filtered sunlight/light shade to see it at its best.

I think it looks nice. Can you post the GIA report, please?

I'm so sorry that you're not head-over-heels about the ring! Can you be a little more specific about exactly what type of opinions you're looking for from the PS community? That way we can better assist you.

For example, if you're wondering what WE would do if after all of our research we opened the box and felt .. meh? Then I agree with what Ame wrote, and if this diamond doesn't sing to YOU then by all means you need to get another one. After all, the final verdict (after the numbers and specs and pics and vids all check out) comes down to whether YOU like what YOU SEE when you're looking down at the ring.

If instead you want someone to evaluate the stone and re-assure you that it looks better than you currently think it does, then if you don't mind posting the specs, pics, ASET/IS, etc the PSers can definitely walk you through that process as well. Please just let us know how we can help you.

If your stone doesn't "sing" to you from the very beginning...well, that's not very good news. Are you absolutely certain that the diamond is clean? Does it have very strong fluorescence? Because very strong or strong fluor can make the diamond look a little milky sometimes...Does the GIA report mention a "cloud" on the clarity characteristics? When the cloud is the clarity grade setting inclusion, the diamond will not have the crispy look that is desired. I'm asking you about this last thing, because i have the same problem with a diamond of a RHR myself...It is an SI1 stone and i can hardly see any inclusions under my loop, even if i look very carefully, so it is totally eye clean BUT...It does have a cloudy look that upsets me so much... :(
Please post the GIA report of your stone. It will help us tell you more...Such things cannot really be well judged by pictures online. In any case, go compare your stone with others of similar specs at brick and mortar stores and if you decide that your diamond is not performing as well as you wish, you should take the big decision to change it now and enjoy it forever after, instead of sticking with something that doesn't make you happy. It's a very expensive item and it needs to be up to your standards ;))
