Well, just when I posted that I thought we were out of the woods with our dog, around 11am today, she started exhibiting the same problems...taking 2-3 steps and then sitting, laying down, back hunched over, pooped in the house, then I let her outside, she walked around for about 10 minutes like she was trying to poop but nothing was coming out (I know, TMI). Came to the back door and collapsed. I had to carry her inside (she weighs 105 pounds). She is moaning and drooling, breathing very heavy and crawling across the floor. BOTH of our vets are on vacation today until Tuesday of course, so I have an appointment at 3pm at another vet in our town. We will have some xrays done, but now they are suspecting a tumor as it is affecting her bowel control (she had 2 accidents in the house besides today since her original episode 3 weeks ago, which we were contributing to the medication, but she has been off all medication for 1 week now). Please pray for us, we knew this was a possibility but DH and I are just shocked right now because we really thought she was doing better. I have been sitting on the floor with her head in my lap to try to comfort her, one of my daughters took over for a few minutes, but this may be the end. DH and I were prepared for this possibility, but my 4 girls are going to be absolutely devastated. They went to a neighbors for a sleepover Wednesday night, and one of my twins called 4 times to see how Daisy was doing. I don''t know what to do, I hope this isn''t it. They are having 2 friends over right now so they are distracted as to what is really going on. I have Daisy in another room to keep her calm. We will know in 1 1/2 hours. I am border line in a panic right now.

Prayers immediately outgoing, hang in there.

Oh my gosh, this just breaks my heart. It''s terrible to see our animals suffer!! Sending over thoughts and prayers for your pooch and your family.

Sending best wishes to you and Daisy. I hope that she''ll be ok.

Oh, no...the poor baby. I will keep your family and pup in my thoughts and I hope she pulls through this.

Well, we just got back from the vet. This is not our regular vet, they are on vacation until Tuesday. But this vet saw her and put her on pain medication, back on the steroids and muscle relaxants. She said it''s obvious that she is in some pain, but she kept commenting on what a sweet dog she is. We need to have her x-rayed as soon as our vet gets back on either Tuesday or Wednesday to see what could be going on. She keeps following me from room to room, 2 steps at a time, then resting...she definitely is looking for comfort. Of course, we''re suppose to be doing a lot of running tomorrow and Sunday because of Easter, so we are trying to work out what we are going to do because we don''t want to leave her alone for too long. We were the 4th animal at the vet, and the other 3 were all being put to sleep. It was SOOOO sad. I was crying. One of the dogs being put down was a yellow lab, and this huge beefy burly guy comes out of the room, tears covering his face, and just collapsed on the floor next to our dog, sobbing on her back (she is a yellow lab too). I was crying like a baby. He hugged DH (we''ve never seen this man before in our lives!) and told us both to love her everyday because you never know when they''ll be gone. The vet staff apologized that we had to be there during all 3 of these poor animals being put down.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone. Keep em coming. We will know more on Tuesday.

Poor baby!

My thoughts will be with you, your family and your precious doggy.

Thinking of you guys and hoping your pup gets better...

So sorry about Daisy''s turn for the worse. Lots of prayers, healing vibes and doggy kisses to you and your family. ((((((BIG HUGS)))))

gosh girlrocks...i don't even know what to say, this is just horrible. i absolutely can't stand to see our pup in discomfort. and it's even worse when they really want you to comfort them, esp when they are so typically stoic. prayers and big hugs for all of you. hang in there.

I''m so sorry to hear about your pup...Is there some reason that this other vet wont/didn''t xray her today? I''d want to know right away...At least you''d be able to know what''s going on, yes?

I''m so sorry. I hope she feels better soon. I wouldn''t have been able to handle that vet appt., it must have been so terrible for all of you.

Our appointment was at 3pm, but we weren''t seen until 3:50pm because of the other 3 animals being put down, obviously they let those families use the rooms as long as they needed. I have to say the vet really rubbed me the wrong way. Our usual vet has a very holistic approach to medicine...accupuncture, herbal suppliments rather than medications, etc. and this vet today made the comment that she practices western medicine and did not want to interfere in our vet''s holistic course of treatment. I think she just didn''t want to take the time to sedate Daisy, xray her, etc, etc. at 4pm on the Friday before Easter quite honestly. I would not go back there again. When we had the first episode 3 weeks ago, she seemed to be feeling better that night. But tonight she is still the same, laying down, taking 2 steps then sitting, we have to coax her outside. I am going to try my vet again tomorrow, they have a message on their answering machine with a pager number, I''ll see where that takes me.

The vet today did do some testing with her feet, bending the toes and then seeing if she puts them back in the same position, and when they did this test 3 weeks ago, both rear legs responded perfectly. Today, the left leg didn''t do so well. She had a hard time putting it back. That coupled with the bowel problems is making me think she may have something neurological going on, a tumor or something...I am certainly NO expert, but I am really worried there is something major going on.

2 of the 3 animals that were being put down today, the families too them home wrapped in blankets, my kids and I were in the waiting room, I don''t think they knew what was in the blankets. But the yellow lab, the family left, and after they left, the staff brought this huge gurney down the hall with a couple of white blankets...I QUICKLY told my kids I had something absolutely amazing in the parking lot to show them and shuffled them out of there. My husband tapped on the window when the coast was clear. Luckily, they had no idea what was happenning, but it was really too close for comfort for DH and I.

I''m so sorry Girlrocks. My most positive thoughts are coming Daisy''s way in the hopes that they find out what is wrong and it is fixable. My heart goes out to you and your family.

I can understand why you dont want to work with today''s vet but I''d like to urge you to call your own vet NOW. Use the pager option and see if they''ll see you tomorrow. It sounds rather urgent and you really shouldn''t have to wait until Tuesday...IMO...Good luck!

Hi, Girlrocks-

I didn''t open your other thread until today when I decided to open this one...and when I saw the first posting in the other thread I was sorry I had looked at it. It was just too painful. I cannot bear the thought of your baby''s looking at you for help and your not being able to take care of her and give her exactly what she needs. I have never been able to bear the suffering of animals and we just euthanized our own dog in January. He was a wonderful, engaging, yellow Lab, too.

All I can say is that I wish you well. My heart is with you and Daisy.

Hugs,
Deb

Girlrocks my heart goes out to you and your DH and kids and poor Daisy at this time. This just sounds so heartbreaking for all of you. I''ll send all possible thoughts and prayers that there is some improvement and good news soon.

Please know though, that if this is the end for Daisy, giving her a peaceful and dignified end surrounded by those she loves is probably the kindest and most selfless thing you can do. She will let you know when its time.

Prayers going out to Daisy and your family, we had our black lab mix put down a year ago in January, she had cancer, it is very hard to do, it about killed my kids

this is the 2nd dog we have had to put down in the last 15 years, I will not get another dog, I cannot do it again, I just cant.

Oh, Girlrocks, so sorry to hear that you have to go through this, especially on a holiday weekend! My doggie Edgar and I are sending prayers your way.
