I have an old half eternity band that belonged to my mother. It has six diamonds t across the top half, they are mid-range sized ie, not huge but about average for a band. My jewler said he could re-set the ring for me in a variety of ways, one of which includes maybe making a new ring and putting colored stones in between the diamonds.

My birth month is June (Pearl, Moonstone, Alexandrite), I''m also fond of the color purple. I was thinking it might be pretty to put something like moonstones in between each diamond.

Does anyone have photos of what this type of ring may look like - suggestions for a different setting - suggestions for what stones may look prettier instead - suggestions for what type of metal, platinum or white gold?

Thanks so much for your help!

I''m not sure you''d get the real beauty of moonstones in such a small size...

If you like purple, why not have a look at amethyst - not the washed out stuff you generally see, but the "siberian amethyst" type with the red flashes. It would really set the diamonds off.

Both of these ideas are great, thank you!

I have another question. I saw the the price of stones like alexandrite are crazy. I like the amethyst idea... my jewler wants to know what types of stone I would like and if I want to do platinum or 14k white gold.

We''re getting married in October so this would be a right hand ring... considering all the money thats going out the door for wedding stuff and considering I don''t want to ''cheap out'' on a ring that contains my mom''s stones what would folks recommend?

Do most people get rings like this in platinum?

I would do platinum if it''s something that you are going to wear everyday. I think platinum holds up better as far as durability over time. But if you are going to switch it with other rings on different days, etc. I think I would opt for white gold. Have you seen the white x1 I think it''s called. It is supposed to look really white and not need platting with rhodium (this would help with maintance). Have you considered Pallidium?

Back to the original question... I don''t think it would be cheaping out on it to do white gold. If you can easily afford the platinum, I think I would choose that, as it is my personal preference.
