Need help deciding if my E ring setting should be changed!

My fiance and I met last December and knew we were meant to be soon after. We tried our hardest to pick a great ring in the short tiem we had before getting engaged.... and I really think we did a great job! We went to a local jeweler who came highly recommended by friends and can custom make whatever you like. And they did indeed make exactly what we asked for. But now that I am learning a bit more about rings and see it on my finger everyday there are a few things I need some help with. We are already going to be adding 4 more diamonds down the band, right now there are 4 on each side, which would make a total of 8 on each side.

I told them I wanted:
-the band tapered toward the center stone
-4 prongs
-milgrain on the band with pave diamonds
-my fiance added the peekaboo sapphires on each side

Things I am now unsure about:
-I feel like the diamond is so low set. I know that a .90 carat isn't huge but it looks so small in this setting. The bottom of it is nestled in the setting and I'd like it sitting higher up. My setting as a whole feels very "low key". And I'd like it to stand out more.
-the peekaboo diamonds will be covered up by my wedding band. I asked about this when we went in and they said they would be set high enough, and they definitely aren't. Where could they be moved to? I love the sapphire accent.

Also, is the quality diamond we picked out okay? I know we could have gotten a full lcarat if we had went down on color and clarity but I really wanted a higher quality diamond. It's a 2.0 on HCA.

Let me know any suggestions you may have to make my setting show off my stone better. I love this ring, but I feel like it could take some tweaks. We will be taking it in soon to have the wedding band made so they will make the changes then. I will be sure to show before & after pictures!

I appreciate all of your help in advance!

Very pretty ring! I don't really think the diamond is low as much as I think the sides come up too high. I feel like it has cathedral height sides but without the cutout parts. It looks very pretty from the top, though! They'd have to remake the entire ring to really fix what is bothering you, though. I am going to see if I can find a ring that might be more what you want.

It reminds me so much of Scott Kay except yours tapers in whereas this particular Scott Kay does not. But you can see how the heads are almost the same and appear to be set low due to the height of the sides.

I am almost thinking that engraving the sides of yours might be a good idea.

I like this one a bit better because the sides are not up as high:

congrats on the engagement!!

well first off are you within any sort of timeframe to return the diamond or ring? Because looking to change things may not be in the card if it isnt.

As for the sapphire sides, is it on both sides of the ring? you're right it probably will be hidden on one side with the band, but on the other side it will still show.
just out of memory i know BG offers a design similar to what you are looking for.

also, I dont think the HCA calculator works for VG cut diamonds. did you get an Idealscope image of the stone?

From what I'm gather it does seem like they would have to remake the entire ring. Do you think it is an option to just have the stone raised up? That might solve the main problem....

If I have them completely re-do the ring, how would that work price wise? Do they reuse the gold they used in my first ring and reuse the diamonds?

Wow, you are really spot on with those two rings you posted! The sides are much more low key on the second one. That does help the center stand out more.

This probably sounds terrible but I have no idea what their return policy is. The ring was purchased in August so I feel like we are past that time frame.

I love how you can actually see the bottom of the diamond in that setting. the way mine is set now I can't even see the bottom tip, I think it's affecting how much light is getting in?

I didn't get an Idealscope of the stone. Is that something the jeweler should have?

Re: Need help deciding if my E ring setting should be change

I think it would look much better if the sides were lower and had more of a "swoop" up to the center stone (if that makes any sense). There is a lot of chunky looking metal from the side view.

Re: Need help deciding if my E ring setting should be change

Most of the cost is labor, so it would almost be buying a whole new ring. Rarely can custom rings be returned. I guess it is conceivable that they could cut out the head and build up the base a bit. You'll need to go ask them.

Re: Need help deciding if my E ring setting should be change

Just ask them. Thry woukd be the only ones to know if they can or not :)

I have an appointment with them next weekend. I'll let you know what they say.

Also, my fiance wants a white gold wedding band. Pretty classic, maybe a step in it like below. Should we go back to our original jeweler? Or order online? I don't know much about online jewelers :saint:

Re: Need help deciding if my E ring setting should be change

One question that has been lingering in my mind.... Is it valid that I want to have the bottom of my diamond showing? In the pictures I posted you can't see the tip because it's nestled into the setting. Is it true that raising it up so I the tip can be seen would allow more light in? It's just such a gorgeous stone and it's partially hidden! Thank you all for dealing with my crazy

I know this forum is "rockytalky" and is meant for diamonds and their settings but.....

I am trying to figure out where to buy my fiances wedding band from. We want a classic white gold band, probably 8mm, with maybe a step in the band. We bought my E ring locally and am wondering if there is a good place to buy bands online that comes recommended from the PS community.
