Re: Need help designing Sea of Cortez 3-pearl pendant, pleas

We're getting closer. John sent me a photo of the layout to approve before they drill.

It looks a lot like my (bad) Photoshop version:

That looks amazing! Very beautiful indeed, good choices.

Re: Need help designing Sea of Cortez 3-pearl pendant, pleas

Beautiful!

Re: Need help designing Sea of Cortez 3-pearl pendant, pleas

It will look perfect Kay. Love the diamond accent between the pearls. BTW Hisano drilled my peanut today it is a gas pearl. I guess that is why it was so big.

Re: Need help designing Sea of Cortez 3-pearl pendant, pleas

Just perfect!
That will be stunning!!!!!

Re: Need help designing Sea of Cortez 3-pearl pendant, pleas

It's going to be beautiful Kay, please make sure to post lots of pictures.

What is a gas pearl? (I'm guessing there was an air bubble under the nacre, but not certain.) Is it still usable and wearable?

Kay, I love that layout.

:wavey: Ennui here is a video that Douglas posted on you tube on gas pearls.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpvjAbdfG0M

As far as I have heard my pearl was just filled with very bad smelling stuff. I think it is okay except for that. Here is part of a post by Douglas of Sea of Cortez Pearls on the other forum that explains a gas pearl I bumped the thread up over there. Good information and pertty pearls too.

"Ok...this is what we've gathered from close inspection of cultured pearls at different degrees of production and from literature.

The first coating on a pearl is usually a dark-protein like substance called conquiolin. This protein is somewhat "plastic" and can stretch. So here is the deal:
The Nucleus-Grafting process has taken place...the tissue has grafted, the "pearl-sac" has formed and now begins the deposition of conquiolin, but some organic matter (usually gonadic tissue) is found inside the pearl sac. This organic material then begins to decay, gas (CO2) is formed as a result of bacterial digestion and this gas makes it possible for the protein to expand (as it would happen if you were inflating a balloon). This process eventually stops, the pearl sac now coats the pearl with nacre.
Final Result...a Gas Giant full of nauseating liquids. The pearls are drilled, the liquid removed and then a cleaning/rinsing of the interior takes place (using salt-water). The bead is usually found loose inside the Gas Pearl...some people prefer to fill up this hollow pearl with resin (as with a Mabé), some don't."

These pearls are very beautiful, with a grainier outside, but must be tested for flaws...some will make the pearls crack.

Hope this answers some questions...will try to produce more examples after this year's (2007) harvest. Hopefully we will have some Beautiful Gas Giants this year.

Re: Need help designing Sea of Cortez 3-pearl pendant, pleas

Thank you all. I am very excited to get my hands on this pendant next week.

4RG, it's good to know gas is useful for producing big, beautiful pearls. ;)) I had to research gas pearls this morning after your post. Congrats on your gas giant. (But poor Hisano or whoever was running the drill. )

Re: Need help designing Sea of Cortez 3-pearl pendant, pleas

It was Hisano who took one for the team. I had to google the term yesterday too. I did know that the nuclei was rattling inside because I could hear it.

We will have lots for our lunch to show and tell in a couple of weeks :naughty: :appl:

So you have a pendant and rattle in one. ;)). Your pearl is going to look gorgeous with Hisano's diamond bail. I am so looking forward to our show and tell. Now I just have to get through the last 5 days of tax returns.

Re: Need help designing Sea of Cortez 3-pearl pendant, pleas

It's here and I love it! I took a bunch of photos in different lighting trying to capture the colors of these 3 pearls, but it is not easy. The large bottom pearl is predominantly purplish, but with flashes of blue and pink, the middle is blue with a little green and pink, the top one is light green with pink flashes. Jeremy suggested using the pearls in this order for the best color flow, and he was right.

Re: Need help designing Sea of Cortez 3-pearl pendant, pleas

I crack up thinking about you walking up to the front of the house at the ruckus suit case in hand. Before you even walk through the front door you are buying these peals off the front finder of a car. What a story to tell about this pendant.
