Hi. I''m new to this site and was hoping to find some guidance. I''m looking for a 2ct. round solitare. My is budget is 10,000. I read a few posts and someone mentioned this diamond...
http://www.whiteflash.com/diamonds/diamond_Details.aspx?itemcode=7783278

but I found this similar one...

Round Carat: 2.04
Color: I
Clarity: SI1
Cut: Ideal
6.35-6.35x3.96
Depth: 62.4
$6,920.70

and this one as well...
Round Carat: 2.18
Color: G
Clarity: SI1
Cut: Ideal
6.52-6.52x4.11
Depth: 63.0
$10,028.00

the last two were GIA appraised.

I''m so confused on the depth and measurements. Can anyone advise me? I''m trying not to max my boyfriend''s 10,000 budget but it seems hard not to with what I''m looking for.

a 2 ct should be about 8mm in diameter. 6.35 and 6.52 are more like 1 ct stones. pass on both of those.

GIA certed diamonds normally carry a higher pricetag than EGL as GIA is said to be the industry standard for grading. EGL diamonds can sometimes be less strictly graded for colour and clarity, but not in all cases. My first piece of advice is to get an independant appraisal whatever you buy to make sure the diamond checks out.

The colour and clarity specs you are considering are great to maximise size, you could also consider a clean SI2 - they are out there but generally the bigger you go the chances are this might be more difficult to find but certainly not impossible. You need to make cut your most important C as it is the skill of the cutter and the finished proportions of the diamond which make it beautiful. You need to consider:

Depth
Table
Crown and Pavillion angles preferably or percents ( which will be on an EGL cert)
Girdle thickness
Diameter measurements

Recent GIA certs should have all this info, if not see if the vendor can get a Sarin report on the diamond as this will help determine cut quality or light return. If you can post the crown and pavillion angles or %'s as well as depth and table measurements and girdle thickness the experts can help you to see which diamonds look best. It might take some searching to find a 2 ct in your budget, is it an option to drop the size?

The first 2 diamonds you posted have the dimensions of about a carat
33.gif
and the price is extremely low for a 2 ct, you might want to check that. The second might be ok, with the girdle it is best to go for slightly thin to thick to avoid wasting carat weight and size, but we really need more info to judge further. Post the crown and pav angles if you can and we can go from there.

Hope this helps.

If EGL... higher grades can''t hurt!

Say, H-Si1
2.01cts,
(EGL)
H/SI1,
depth: 62%,
table: 57%,
girdle: m- ?,
culet: no,
finish: ex / ex,
fluorescence: no,
Size: 8.23*8.25,
Price: $8027

It was a relatively low quote and wonder why, but at this point, only the seller knows.

The above is a great quality diamond you could get for your budget - but it is 1.5 carats......and 1$ off the top of your budget, but it will give you an idea. If you are really set on size then you might have to shoot for a good EGL diamond, I did this and am very happy I did, but you have to know what to look for and search.

also this one http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?cid=130&item=828287 from James Allen, the grading report is needed to get more info but it might have possibilities, it is a little over budget though by $500, but it will give you some comparisons.

Thanks everyone for your help and info.
Just a few more ?''s

Valereria101 the diamond you posted where was that available?

Lorelei what is a H&A diamond? Do you think that one is a better buy than this one also from Whiteflash?

For sure I think the WF diamond I posted is a better choice. A H&A cut is an ideal cut diamond cut to very exacting proportions to ensure maximum beauty and light return. These diamonds display a distinct arrow pattern when viewed face up in certain lights or a viewer, from the bottom down a heart pattern. If you look on the diamond I posted you will see under the Idealscope image these patterns. WF have their own H&A cut known as A Cut Above or ACA H&A. Some other ideal cut diamonds can display these patterns somewhat too. A H&A cut is considered to be one of the finest cut diamonds available. For more info, check out WF's educational section and you will learn more about these beauties. However a diamond cut to good proportions and not a branded cut can have it's own share of beauty too, it depends on what the purchaser values. For example, WF Expert Selection is a great choice with diamonds that just missed ACA standards, but very beautiful and desirable in their own right. Slim pickings though in the size you want right now, 1.5 - 2 cts is so in demand now.

Before you go too much further, you might want to check with WF about the availability of these EGL diamonds before deciding on one, I don't believe they are in house and it might be best to check with them.
